Actually, on dry pavement a non-abs system will stop faster than abs.

Not quite true. On dry pavement at the braking threshold, both vehicles will stop in EXACTLY the same distance. However.....

On dry pavement in a panic stop (i.e. slam on the brakes and hold it), the non ABS vehicle will skid. Skidding takes a longer distance to stop every time guaranteed. ABS will not stop you quicker than a threshold braking scenario where the brakes and tires are operating at 95 percent of their ability, but they WILL give you the ability to maintain control of the vehicle in a panic stop situation where panic braking would result in a skid.

Like I said before, ABS doesn't re-write the laws of physics, it just helps you better utilize them.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Ask yourself, did I ever say that *I* don't drive without ABS?

I love how people think that they can threshold brake all the time better than the ABS system.

I love it when people jump to conclusions.

I meant "you" as a generic term, not you specifically. I can make absolutely no judgements about your driving specifically. I used the word "you" like when you're explaining a process: You do this, then you do that. I was not adressing you specifically. My apologies for the poor grammar.

And I guess you're right.... I definately mis-interpreted something you said earlier. My humblest apologies. No offense intended.... Sometimes my sarcasm comes back around to bite me in the arse.

I've heard too many people bash ABS for all the wrong reasons and kind of jumped to a conclusion, lumping you in with all the rest of 'em. There are reasons to bash it.... nothing you said was one of them.

New to the Forum here. I have a 95 XLT with 200K w/ 4 wheel ABS. This weekend I changed out the front disc and pads. Not a major job. Well on the test drive I found a BIG problem. Houston we have a ABS problem. (getting the soft pedal and the pedal chattering under 10 MPH and NO ABS Light) I have seen this problem talked about on may forums.

I was thinking that I got air in the ABS system. At this point I was thinking BIG problem. I need some help. After 2 auto repair shops, the locale FORD dealer and $50. every one told me it was the ABS pump ($1900 from Ford and $1100 part store). I could not believe that changing the Disc would make the ABS go out.

So I started looking around some more and found the comments on here. So with new hope I looked at the speed sensors. I found that the toothed integral rings (the disc the speed sensor reads) was warped on both sides. After getting the spacing between the speed sensor and toothed integral rings set. I did and test drive. NO MORE PROBLEM.
