I have a 03 4.6L XLT and the ABS light just came on and I pulled no codes but the rear end is making a little hum and upon deceleration there is a shutter or surging. When I let off accelerator at normal speed around town and when I apply breaks there is a surging feel and wasn’t sure if it is the rear end or the breaks. I tested codes but no ABS ones showed up so I am not sure if my reader pulls ABS or not.

a normal scanner like autozone etc wont pull abs code's. their is a known problem with the rear abs sensor failing. the surge in the pedal is the abs pump I think cause the light is on. I just got done doing this repair on my 02 4.6L XLT. I replaced front wheel bearing's and the rear sensor. seems fine now. the rear sensor is dirt cheap like $30 and very easy to change if your a DIY.

Thanks I will get it scanned at a local shop that has scanner, where is it located at, on differential?

Abs sensor replaced on rear diff and light is out but haven't tested shutter yet but hoping it's gone. More worried about tick/tapping noise on my other post.

Thanks for everyone's help like always.
