ABS light, HELP!!!

My ABS light comes and goes. Now when the light is off, I have ABS and everything is fine. When the light does comes on, my ABS is gone and I only found this out out after spining my car on a snow covered road this weekend. Is it my relay or what?!?! Thanks for any help. I'm starting to like ABS more than 4x4 in the snow.

Probably a bad sensor or relay. You didn't mention what year your Explorer is. Run a search on the site for ABS and you'll find a bunch of posts addressing the same problem you are having and several fixes.

I've heard other people tell me it could be the relay, where do I look for the relay?

Year, Model, etc.. kinda makes it easier..

We've got a '94 that had a bad relay that caused it to not start, so we swapped it with the ABS relay. Now the ABS goes on the fritz. I bet it might be a relay. When the light comes on in our car, we don't have ABS functioning either.

sorry...I didn't realize that would help. I have a '94 XLT w/ 4.0 V6 4x4. I appreciate all the help I have gotten so far. I agree, I think it's the relay, now I just need to figure out how to repair it.

abs light

its most likely a bad sensor, so you should just try unhooking the battery for liiike 20 minutes and then drive 5-10 miles at a constant speed (slow acceleration) and the problem should be fixed.

Could be a bad sensor (I'd follow Jas' advice first) but if that doesn't check out, you might want to check the actual ABS line that runs from the computer to the brakes...mine came loose once and started rubbing against the inside of one of the rims, which sent the whole ABS system on the fritz. It's a long shot, but possible.

How does unhooking the battery and driving at a constant speed solve the problem? My Ford dealer is telling me that I need to change the hub and sensor to take care of it. Didn't make sense to me if it is only the sensor.
