I have a 2003 XLT 4door 2wd and the problem I am having is that my ABS Light is on and never goes out...I replaced the module up in the left front but it stays on...I looked at the fuses/relays but they are fine...Any suggestions of what could be causing the light?

When you first start the truck, the ABS Leigh should flash in a special sequence.

Post the sequence and we will try to help you with the LFC ( Light Flash Code ).

Abs

It comes on when the key is turned to the on position and stays on the entire time. Never blinks...

Sorry, I had a major brain fart - I somehow thought you were referring to Airbag light.

You will need to scan the system for the ABS codes.

Good luck .......

Thank you.. That is what I was affraid of.

My 02 xls did it last week and then went out, my wife was driving it yesterday and said it was doing it again. I drove it to work today and the light was out.

abs

same problem with my 04. took it into ford they could not find a problem. in the last month since being at the dealer it has come on and off about 20 times. also when it is on the cruise does not work. going in next week again warranty almost up so they need to find out the problem. will post when it gets back

Mine came on about a year ago and went out after a few days. Then came back on a few days later and has been on ever since. It doesn't come on when I first start up, but comes on after I have driven a couple hundred yards.

Check the rear sending unit

Mine came on also, and stayed on. Once in a great while it would go off for a minute or two, then come back on. My pedal pulsed a couple of times when I was in a curve. Took it to a shop I trust, and they saw no codes. The owner told me he suspected the rear sending unit (on the diff I think), as they had replaced several of them. He replaced mine, light is off and ABS is working (I tried it on my gravel driveway :D )
Might want to check there, I think they are only $20 bucks or so.

The codes are stored, so even if it's NOT on, it's still in the memory.
Mine does the exact same thing, and they are blaming the remote start.

I just bought a '02 and have the same problem with my ABS light staying on. The problem with mine was the previous owner removed the dvd monitor that was attached to the dome lighting spot and the interior light stereo and abs circuits are tied into the same. i was told that with the missing light the system is detecting this and sending a warning though the stereo works. i am having the new light put in and hopes this solves that problem.

abs

Well my 04 is at ford right now and they still can not find the abs problem. they are telling me the codes are not being stored. the only way the can get the code is when the abs light is on. ?? well as soon as I shut it off and start it again the light does not come on. well I will post when problem is found

I first had the ABS light with 4x4 High light flashing problem at 36,200 miles (nice warranty timing). The dealer changed the rear axle speed sensor and picked up most of the cost (except for an $11.10 deductible) becuase it was part of a dealer Field Service Bulletin. The "fix" lasted about four days and I've had it back twice since with the same problem. The third time I was told the the codes continue to indicate the rear speed sensor should be replaced, but it has been replaced twice (so they tell me). I was told that they need to contact Ford technical repair to see what to do next and they would call me back. It's been a couple of days with no call yet. I plan to call them again tomorrow. Has anyone found out yet what the real fix is? If they ever figure out and complete a permanent repair on my Explorer, I'll pass along the details.

no luck

Well, it turns out it wasn't what I thought. The dealership told me it was my rear sensor (a common problem). Is this something that is easily changed by someone with limited skills? I am out of warranty by a year and have to pay for it myself.

ABS Sensor Repair

The rear sensor was $26.65 at the dealer and the Ford Service Part Number is 5L2Z-9E731-AA (at least for an '04). You'll need a 3/8" socket and the repair would be easiest using a hoist, as the sensor is mounted near the top of the rear differential. However, you might be able to get to it using jackstands.

Thanks

Mine is a '02 but I am sure there isn't much difference (at least in price). As for the labor, I can do minor items like struts, brakes and etc...just nothing that involves a master in auto mechanics with computer repairs. If it is simply changing it out with a socket wrench, I think I am okay. Thanks for the heads up....

hey can anyone answer this one
i broke my front abs sensor whilst replacing the wheel bearings so the abs light came on. i replaced the said part but the light will not go out it does not flash on start up it just never goes out . do i have to reset anything????
