Does anyone know if the front ABS sensors are interchangeable (left to right) on a 96 4X4. I'd like to try switching them on my Explorer to see if it's the sensors (they are $243 each, sold in pairs here in Orillia) or something else that makes the ABS engage all the time. By the way, removing the caliper, mounting bracket, brake rotor and back plate took about 1 hour and a few skinned knuckles. I cleaned the left sensor which seemed a bit greasy but the ABS still turns on. Thanks!

I would speculate based on how they work (hall effect device) that they should be interchangable. In other words, there is no reason electrically why they would be any different between the left and right sides.

Its possible that they could have a different harness length or a different connector though.

I'm not sure what swapping from left to right buys you in terms of troubleshooting though - you would still need both sensors connected.

They're $65 each here in the states. They are themselves interchangable, but the harnesses are different so if you're just testing that's ok, but you shouldn't swap them for long term.

Alec, where could I order these sensors from? Is there a web site somewhere? $65 sure beats $243 even after the exchange.
