Hey-

Currently, I have no AC. After the engine was swapped on my 2000, it was never charged. My question is, will something like this work?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Arct...QQitemZ140328176960QQptZAutomotiveQ5fServices

Would this work, since the AC has nothing at all? I'm curious if it would be enough. I don't want to pay to have it charged..

Edit..I don't think this includes a canister...

But, supposing there was one like this with a canister, would it be enough to charge the AC? Would I need several canisters?

Thanks!

If the system was ever opened up it will need to be evacuated, then charged.

Unless you evacuate the system first,(pump that air out), the system will not work very well. You will not be pleased with the results, (unless you set your expectations low).
Those types of kits are designed to top off a system, not to fill it from empty.

Is there any way for me to tell if it has ever been opened?

(I'm still wishfully thinking I can do this myself easily/cheaply)

When you said the engine swap, I assumed that the compressor was changed too. That changes it quite a bit.

The kits are designed to top the system off. I, as a professional mechanic can not recomend them.

But, yes they work. If the system has some pressure, you can use one of these to add some more. I STRONGLY RECOMEND WEARING SAFETY GLASSES WHILE USING ONE OF THESE. Protect your eyes!

I wouldn't trust that thing. You need a gauge on both the hi & low side. If it doesn't work (which I doubt will) then you are out the money.

IMO A/C service should be left to the pro's.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking I'll do. I'd rather just pay the money and make sure it's done right.
