Did any iteration of the 1st gen ST come with an AC condenser fan? I noticed that my truck doesn't cool well when in stop and go traffic and so I was thinking of adding one on a switch just to get some airflow over the condenser in these situations - when I start rolling 30+ MPH it cools just fine.

I checked the charge and it was a bit low so surely there is a slow leak somewhere. I'm topping it off today for the summer (I have a proper manifold gauge set), but if that doesn't resolve the poor low-speed performance, do you guys have any recommendations to add a condenser fan? Has anyone done it?

Thanks!

Have you tried using the search bar for condenser fan add on or something like that?

I've seen lots of threads about it but just don't have a link handy right now.

@koda2000 comes to mind.

He knows a lot more that I do.

Perhaps your problem is that your belt driven fan clutch is worn out and needs to be replaced. Have you examined your condenser to make sure it's not clogged with dirt and/or bugs?

You can add an aux electric pusher fan to the condenser (assuming there's enough room) fairly easily and run it off a relay and a manual switch, but it shouldn't be necessary. I live in GA and all of my Explorers and Mountaineers cool extremely well w/out having an aux electric fan.

See what happens after you bring the refrigerant level up to snuff, clean the front of the condenser and consider the fan clutch.
