Ac/heating system

Hello all, I have a 1999 Ford Explorer Limited. My rearview mirror fell off, like an idiot, I threw it away and snipped the wire leading to it. Now my air conditioning and heating system panel is blank and it’s not getting power. Any ideas

Welcome, and the mirror circuits have no connection with the AC system. You can fix the cut wiring and remount a compatible mirror to fix that.

The AC is separate and most likely not getting power, which comes from a fuse.

Thanks, that makes sense. I’ll re-check the fuse box under the hood and in the car. Unfortunately, I cannot fix the wiring because I snipped it right near the roof

That wiring runs under the edge of the headliner, over and down the "A" pillar. You can find another 95-01 Explorer or Mountaineer that uses the same high option mirror, and cut that pigtail off. Finding another truck will also be the cheapest way to replace the mirror, those are not cheap anywhere, but forget trying a new parts source. Those mirrors have the automatic feature built into them, plus auto dimming. They are heavy so you have to buy the best brand for a glue/epoxy kit to reattach it to the glass. Don't buy a cheap brand, those will end with the mirror falling off again.

Thanks for the information, I will try to figure out what the ‘a’ pillar is and go from there. I really wish I had not snipped that wire. Fortunately, this is a 1999 Ford explorer so it is no huge loss but I would like the AC and heating to work.

The "A" pillars are the front pair at the windshield, the B pillars are behind the front doors, C pillars are the next pair back etc.

The AC is a bigger deal, find out why that isn't getting power first.

The mirror wires might have to have the headliner brought down a little to get to them. But the overhead compass does too. Pull that first and see if there is any way to get the wires out in that opening of the headliner, to work on. That compass section can be removed in a few minutes, there's just a couple of small bolts that hold it up IIRC(take the light cover lens off first, it pops off from one end of it).
