My ac is not working i should of checked it when buying the car it was in the winter and it seemed cold to be but i guess not. It blows out genearlly room temparture air. Tried running it a couple of times and no cold air. Could this just be that it needs to be recharged? I dont feel like spending an arm and a leg on fixing the ac.

First step would be to check the charge. Go get one of those r134a dispensers with a gauge attached to it from Walmart or wherever. Follow all the directions or search the internet for a how-to on charging your AC.

If it works for a few days and then goes out again, you have a refrigerant leak. You (or a shop) would have to inject dye into the system, and then come back later with a UV light to spot the leaks. New o-rings and fittings would be required where needed.

If it is already fully charged, or charging it doesn't help, then you will have to start thinking about spending an arm and a leg. You could also go with the 455 AC System.
