Are they worth a crap? Got to have mine replaced and the Ford place is wanting $1,350.00 for a new one. I want to put a new one in it but I'd like to find one at a better price than that.

joo try looking at a junk yard? or try car-parts.com .. they're not new but they'll probably be ultra cheap.. ive bought two used manual 1354s from the vendors on car-parts.com for a few hundred and neither of them has failed (one is being used - the other was used for a short time but is now a backup)

No offense but I'd rather go with new, I plan on keeping this truck for a while and don't offroad it a whole lot.

none taken..

so why did ur transfer case die? did the dealer give u any details? (lets not get ripped off by the dealer by just taking their suggestions as if its the only solution.. some ppl on this message board have gotten ripped off by dealers)

i ask because transfer cases dont generally die if u dont stress em too much (as in off roading or towing and flooring the gas) .. if u have an electric shift/automatic transfer case, usually the transfer case shift motor will go bad but thats just usually between $100 and $200 to replace - a lot less than an entire new transfer case. my old electric-shift (non-manual) transfer case never died and i ran that for about 7 years (it was replaced by a manually-shifted one not because it died, but the manual one is just better to control)

if ur going to look for a new transfer case.. i suggest first finding out what model transfer case u have (Borg Warner 4404, Borg Warner 4405, and so on...).. i'm not familiar with Rangers so I'm not sure what urs is.. u can then use this model number on ur quest for a new transfer case.

I would swap in a BW 1354m. They are cheap, and are strong. There is no reason not to do it, I highly doubt you would wear it out.

I don't think those guys are trying to rip me off, they're some pretty decent guys.

Now the other dealer I took it to was going to try to rip me a new one. The slip yoke on the drive shaft needed to be replaced because of that bumping thing that a lot of people have been experiencing. Well they told me it'd take a new drive shaft to fix that. But they, for some reason, couldn't hear the noise that my T/C was making so I took to my normal dealer. His transmission guy had been in the hospital, only reason I didn't go there in the first place.

Can someone delete this thread?? I don't need it anymore...lol.

Thanks.

He didn't give me any details but I'm sure he will when I take my truck back to him, once the transfer case gets there. He was gone yesterday when I went to get my truck or I was going to ask him about it. I myself would like to know what went wrong inside it, just because I'm curious like that. :D :D

I tore down a remote control truck one day to see why it wouldn't turn left...lol.
