Aldive,
Is one of your mpg secrets the acetone?
I tried it in my other car with no results, + or - ,but I have seen postings on other forums that say it can be significant.

What is it, 2-3 oz per 10 gallons? Is it every tank? pour in acetone before or after fill up? or does it matter?

How much do you figure it gives you?

According to the myth busters it does not do ****. I have found if oyu have to much it does not work. I get good results with 1 oz per 10 gallons.

The entire acetone program, is a bunch of BS,JMO

when you say good results, how good?

Here is the link for the guys who are testing. I myslef have not had any good or bad results. The truck does seem to rum smoother though but thats the only thing I've seen.

Acetone test

i went to ace, lowes and napa, but none of the bottles said pure 100% acetone.
Just said "Acetone" on the back it says it contains acetone 67-64-1. is this what i shoud use in my tank? its made by crown.
thanks in advance.

My results using acetone for the last 1000 miles have proved nothing to me gas mileage wise. Ive gotten about 1mpg better, but thats not enough to be anything conclusive, it could be because of summer blended gas. I have noticed that the car runs smoother, though, and *maybe* had a little more passing power in the 3000 rpm range on the highway.

Same here. Gas milage wise not anything to noticible but it does runner better.

Mine to were nothing to speak of. I have read elsewhere that you have to play with the mix a little to get it where you motor likes it. I have gone as high as 3 oz per 10 gallon with no real results. One thread even said 4oz per 10. In my 98 Jetta VR6, I did get about 3 more miles per gallon. I also think with my truck, it may be running to cool not letting the system to go to closed loop. Thats where the ECU starts listening to what the sensors are telling it.

well I got 16.8 on my first tank since I bought the truck - 75 - 80% hwy nad somewhere in the 15 range on 2nd tank - a lot more stop and go on that one.
On my 3rd tank now, this time I added 4 oz to a full tank, so 2 to 10, and I'm not sure what my mpg is yet, but I know for sure it's better than the first tank. I've got 250 miles with 1/4 tank to go. b4 I was filling at 250.

I had no noticable results at all in my PT Cruiser with the smae mix. I'll try playing some more.

I found a site once that had a ton of postings from all kinds of people with all kinds of cars. It was interesting because the results were all over the board. Some had nothing good or bad to say, some got a lot worse mpg, some got better and some got a lot better and swear by it.

before acetone, a trip from Dallas, TX to El Paso, TX yielded about 18.6 MPG with an avg speed of about 68 MPH. I think that if i didn't have other after trying the acetone, i would have yielded about 3 MPG better although this is really hard to say because i did other mods. the single most helpful thing was adjusting my TPS. after that and a KKM intake without the cargo racks yielded me 24 mpg. also, i did the brown wire mod and stayed in 2wd the whole time. My avg speed for my latest trip was about 76MPH with moderate conditions, not sure about humidity or pressure, but i think the avg temp was about 85 and wasn't very breezy. Since the trip, my combined city and hwy is usually about 20, where as all stock, no acetone would have been about 13-15. so i think it works pretty well with modifications. Not sure about all stock with acetone though.

DDEB
What engine do you have?
What 's the brown wire mod??????
What is the TPS?

18 mpg on the last tank with 2 per 10. Not a ton better, but better none the less

i have the 4.0 SOHC. the brown wire mod is if you have 4wd, with the switch that says, auto, 4 high, 4 low. it makes it 2wd by putting a switch inline with a brown wire. do a search for this, there are many threads on this and a few write ups. the TPS is the throttle position sensor. apparently on ford v6 and v8 engines, the TPS may not be at the optimum setting out of the factory. If i am wrong, someone chime in.

I have AWD so brown wire doesn't apply

How would I know how/where to set the TPS?

quick comment
why would you guys put acetone in your motors?
acetone is a solvent that can dissolve things! i mean its used remove paint and stuff like that...
i wouldn't believe the internet hype about gas milage from acetone ......
i wont put that in any of my cars....

Acetone + Xylene

It's supposed to be 2-4 oz. of acetone and 10 oz. of xylene per 10 gallons of gas. I'm thinking of trying it myself! The website is:

K
never heard of the xylene. I've read about the acetone on a couple dofferent sites. No one said anything about xylene. 10oz seems like a bit much. how much does that stuff cost a gallon?
I'll look at the site.

Why would we put accetone in our cars? In an effort to get a little better milage. It really sucks paying close to $3.00 a gallon. Even a 1 mpg increase makes a diff in the pocket book.
2 oz to 1280 oz mix isn't going to have those corrosive effects your taliking about.
