i have a 2000 eddie bauer and i was wondering how much a set of explorer pro comp add-a-leafs would firm up the ride. i am planing on putting a set of 265/75s on soon and dont like the rear end sag.
I put a set on my 97 V8 XLT and I didn't really noticed any difference in the ride other than the fact it no longer mushes in the back, of course that could be because I also replaced the shocks.. It does handle towing a lot better, even though I haven't readjusted the WD hitch yet to make up for the increase in height. The sag is gone, and I can make turns quicker without having to worry about oversteering through them now, of course that could also be because i now have Michelins instead of hellstones.
No matter what, you cant go wrong putting them in, it took me about an hour to do both sides, the hardest part was removing the old pins.
would add-a-leaf stiffen the ride? i hate it when my truck rocks back and forth when i corner onto a street with a little rain-drain. would add a leaf help? if so, i will just add-a-leaf and torsion twist to make the truck look level, instead of its butt in the air.
I too am looking at the Torsion Twist, but the lack of knowledge from my Ford dealers scares me. My worry is about damage (long term) that it may cause, and also my warranty. The warranty book basicly says if you do anything short of changing a fuse you void your warranty. I printed out the torsion tips instructions and showed it to a ford service shop and they were totaly clueless. If I was confident that it wouldn't cause any problems than screw the warranty but I haven't found enough answers to give me that confidence.
Also these pro add a leafs...Where can they be bought, and will they fit 2000 sport 4x4? I called some suspension shops and they wouldn't sell them without doing the work themselves, best offer was $210 for labor, re-arch, and leafs they make themselves. Pro-leafs fairly easy to deal with. I am somewhat a novice.... Thanks all!!! This site has helped so much.
After new leafs and new shocks, the ride stiffened up a bit. The truck does not sway side to side anymore when you go over bumps. It feels more like a truck and less like a Caddy.

You need to read Dead Link Removed It will inform you about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
Dealerships will use any modification to refuse any warranty they can, but they do not have the right to do so. They depend on the fact that no one knows their rights. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act basically says that unless an aftermarket part or modification actually CAUSED the problem, companies cannot disallow coverage by their warranties.
In other words, if you did a torsion twist, the Ford dealer would be within its rights to refuse to warranty your CV joints if they failed, since in theory changing the CV angles with the lift could cause their premature failure. BTW, none of ours have worn out as a result of the twist as far as I know, but the Ford dealer would have a case. HOWEVER, if you brought your vehicle in for defective wipers, fuel pump, starter problems, etc etc etc they would have a REAL hard time blaming any of those on a torsion twist. They will have to honor the warranty once you inform them you know your rights under the act.
Hope that helped. Add-a-leafs won't void any non-suspension warranty either. Ford's own airride adjustable suspension changes ride height more than add-a-leafs.
I would also agree with GJarrett. I have many mods done to my motor(cam, headers, supercharger...etc...) and my truck is also lowered and I have had it back for warranty work a few tim not one word said- well that could also be cause my dad has bought many business cars and trucks from the dealer and my dad knows a few sales men there but i dought it..... if something goes wrong with one thing that has nothing to do with your mods I dont think they can say anything- but ya never know
