OK got the car back from them putting in the new Rancho 5000's and add a leafs. The problem is that i wanted some height from these things and i got ZERO!!! even when i did the shackles a got ZERO height. what is wrong? do i have $hitty leafs or something?

is it possible to put 2 add-a-leafs on? I need some room for 32's!

Extended shackles and add a leafs should give you about 2 inches. Did you measure? The shackles alone were noticeable on my car.

For 32's you may need a body lift also, as the front will probably rub.

just measured. 33.5 inches all the way around. the before measurement was the same. WTF!!! i'm so pissed that these didn't work eathher! body lift is outa the question. not extending the brush guard nor both bumpers

Something is really wrong. What shackles did you use?

TWAR 153. what everyone else has.

Do you think i should get new leafs? these sound like there bad! only thing i have in the trunck is a tool box! tryed the spare tire on the roof, like more to the front before i did the aal and got nothing.

i'm going to try and see if i take the spare tire off completely, if it will raise it up.

It is possible and really sounds like the leafs are shot.

ok got one person saying i need new leafs. any one elses opion?

I'm confused on the pictures of your x you say that you got 2" with the shackles!!!!! now you don't have any. I'm sure that you don't have leveling shocks do you? silly me must be shot leafs then or siezed shocker. :banghead: :shoot:

It is very possible your leaves are shot. Maybe you can look into getting them re-arched for exactly the lift you want instead of getting replacements then going through all the stuff to lift those.

And I think someone had a set of OME 2" springs for sale last week?

How/where do i get them re-arched? How long will they say in that shape?

ok i just talked w/ the macanic that did the work for me. he said he DID twist the TT and i DID get height. weird b/c it seems like he told me he didn;t when i picked it up. Oh well. i'll take his word for it. i'm going to find a stock X in town and park next to it to see the difference. As for the stock 28 size tires. i got to get $300 for new ones (Dad's lending me 1/2 the money so i'll get them earlier and repaying him back when i get the money)

Sorry for the confusion!

I thought 33.5 inches sounded high enough.

haha help if i wrote the begining heigh down right i think. D@mn dyslexic in me! Tomorrow i'll get measurement of a stock X at school. i know it won't be what my stock height was but it'll be close!

leaf springs

ok i did the cheap shackles and i did get lift, BUT i did not do the add a leafs. if u just do the lift shackles u will get some lift.

if u ever put add a leafs or lift blocks on a 95 with the leaf springs under the axle it WILL ACTUALLY LOWER YOUR EXPLORER.

the ONLY way u will get lift with add a leafs or lift blocks is if the LEAF SPRINGS SITS ON TOP OF THE AXLE!! this is the truth, with most trucks lift blocks and lift leaf springs will raise the truck because 90% of trucks have leaf springs on top of the axle.

when u had the mechanic do the add a leafs you actually had him LOWER the explorer. when u did the shackle lift u will ALWAYS raise your truck. if u want lift, be sure to take off the add a leafs and get your money back. your explorer probably looks stock now because you lifted it with the shackles, then u lowered it with the add a leafs

if u have ?s feel free to email me

just to let you know my 95 sat about 2-3" taller in the front with the torsion bars cranked up ALL the way. this was when i compared it to a 97-99 explorer in the front. i always thought my 95 sat lower than the 97-99 explorers, and now mine is 2-3" taller than the newer explorers

your an idiot

you are right about the blocks but very wrong about the leafs.

Ah your wrong man. sorry to tell you. after all i did get height and all the rest of us did. i went and found a 95 xlt same color and all and the front was 32 1/2 inches and the back was 31 inches. Now i'm up to 33.5 inches. and it did lift the X. shackles actually didn't for me.

ok well i went to do an add a leaf on my 95 explorer and i was told that it would lower the ride because u are raising the axle into the fenderwell and not towards the ground.

on MY 95 explorer, the leaf spring assembly is under the axle- THIS IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than an full size bronco for example. if lift blocks and add a leafs would raise the bronco, it would do exactly the opposite with my 95 explorer, THINK about it. BETTER yet ask someone who LOWERED their 95 explorer, and ask them how they did it, this would explain it perfectly.

on MY 95 explorer the leaf spring sits under the axle and how would putting add a leafs raise the truck from the ground? the answer is that it would lower it by raising the AXLE into the fenderwell---YOU WANT TO DO THE OPPOSITE when u raise a truck.

i would like to see pictures of the leaf springs actually raising the rear end on a 95 explorer- without the use of lift shackles.

coolchriscush said that blocks would not work but add a leaf will- how is this possible if both of them are placed exactly in the same location and they both are 1-3 inches tall? if add a leafs will raise a 95 explorer then a lift blocks WOULD do exactly the same. if coolchriscush does not agree with me ask a shop that LOWERS trucks they will tell u the same

I WILL ADMIT i was wrong about using shackles and add aleafs, apparently they will raise your explorer, but as far as just add a leafs raising the truck, I will NOT beleive it until i see a photo of just the add a leaf raising the truck.

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO RAISE A TRUCK BY LIFTING THE AXLE INTO THE FENDERWELL RATHER THAN PUSHING THE AXLE TWARDS THE GOROUND?-- ANSWER this if u want to reply again.

Maybe I am just not seeing how it would be lowered. If you add a leaf don't you add to the curavature to the whole spring? If this is true then it would push the axel futher away reguardless is the leaf was above or belowthe axel. Maybe i am a little  about the whole leaf spring.

the add a leafs add more curature to the leaf resulting in the lift. thats why it lifts the truck and not lower it!
