Is a sub that can be mounted in the stock location worth the expense and trouble? If I add one, this is my only option for the install.

Thanks....

most people think so. a subwoofer handles the low end frequencies that your door speakers cant accurately produce. without the sub, you aren't hearing all of your music. it kinda like the difference between watching a movie on your tv with just the tv speakers, and watching a movie with surround sound with a subwoofer.

I don't know if it is worth it really if that is your only option. You are talking about $400+ on a box and sub alone and the subs that are in those boxes aren't of the highest quality..but then again they aren't bargin bin equipment either. The problem is that the box is so small you can't get much bass out of it or at least not as much as you could with a regular seperate sealed enclosure.

For the price of one of those boxes with a sub and amp you could replace your 4 seperate speakers and power them adquately with an external amp (which could be mounted where the stock amp is). This would provide you a broader sound range...but nothing like a separate sub would provide.

Mine sounds awesome, but it is custom-built and has an a/d/s/ 310rs.2 sub in it. It can sound great if it is built properly. Keep in mind though that the max air space that you can get out of that area is a little less than 1.0 cu ft.

That a/d/s sub is awesome! I almost bought one before I got my Alpine. But you are right those prefab boxes just suck.

you can usually find them pretty cheap on ebay...

Dont know much about these, but what about a free-air sub like an infinity or someother one?
