Adding Fender Vents

so I decided to go with some fender vents . I like the look of Bstollmaier's Explorer but didn't want to copy the exact look so I decided on the Range Rover Sport vents . this is the rough idea before paint and finish work .

Not that it matters but the vents you chose are the same as a Land Rover LR4 The Range Rover Sport is a little bit different...

Both look good...I just wouldnt wanna be the guy cutting the holes in the sheet metal.

Hey BAD, Those Vents Look GOOD.

The vent's silver accent kinda picks up on those much disdained chrome door handles; did that influence the choice of vent and the placement? The vents look pretty much in line with the handles. Are you keeping your door handles chrome?

Is that accent piece on the vent made of plastic or real metal of some sort, like brushed aluminum or stainless?

Would you share the vents' brand/manufacturer and/or where you sourced them from?

Do also you have any photos of the install process? Like the first, scary hole-cutting ones like in Bstollmaier's post?

Thanks BAD for taking the risk first and letting us live vicariously through you! Since ours is the wife's daily driver, this mod will probably never fly with her.

i'm planning on wrapping the handles black . I want to see if the silver grows on me , but if it doesn't , my buddy said we can rough it up and spray it body color or satin black . the vents are OEM but they are plastic . I got the vents off ebay and they are direct replacement vents for 2006-2009 Range Rover Sports LR006306 / LR006305 . I regret it but the first photo I took was the one in this thread so I don't have the chopping evidence :thumbdwn:

actually the vents are the direct replacement vents for a 2006-2009 Range Rover Sport . the LR4 vents are different from what I have . part # LR006306 / LR006305 .

completed vent project !

so I picked up the vehicle yesterday from my friend's shop and I have to say that it came out a hell of a lot better than expected . obviously , after the paint and finish work was done , it looks very OEM .

as you can see from a couple of the pictures , he had to build up the fender to make the vents fit in properly . the vents are factory " snap in " vents for the range rover so that's what he wanted to do instead of using any adhesive or glue . you can also see that he recreated the factory body line in the body work so it looks OEM

obviously the pictures don't do it justice but you guys can get the idea of what was done :D

Quality of the bodywork looks great. I think the silver part of the vent would look better blacked out or chrome to match the handles.

that's kind of what i'm leaning towards . I want to wrap the handles first to see if that helps the look of the silver part of the vents . I can always scuff it up and paint it if it doesn't :D

black the handles out, black the bar out, and put a sport emblem across the bar like the raptors have an svt emblem in the vents.

i'm planning on blacking out the handles this weekend.....if my 3 year old son gives me some time (he loves to play with dad) . the silver bar actually has the sport letters formed into it .

i have another hood coming my way so i can do a custom hood for my ride . i know it's not everyone's cup of tea but i think a custom hood will look excellent with a couple of vents in it . i'm going try out some vents from a mustang hood .

i'm going try out the red caliper covers from MGP to see how they look . i already have them so i might as well give them a try . since the caliper covers are red , should i try the "sport" letters on the vents in red or just leave them silver .

what's the model # on the caliper covers? Most websites don't list the 2013 explorer sport, and when I emailed MGP they never responded.

10215-S-FRD-RD ....this is the part # from MGP's site

I haven't put them on yet but hoping to get it done this weekend also . I need to paint the calipers red before installing the covers because you can still see the top of the calipers through the wheels .

This is a nice mod, would have loved to see a step by step for this.
Did you lower it or is that just the way 22s look? I like your wheels!
I think you need nerf bars to finish the look. The vented hood, if tastefully done, should be nice!

it is lowered with the H&R springs . I thought about the nerf bars but i'm going for more of a sporty look so I think the nerf bars is not the best look for that .

this is the rough idea for the hood . i'm looking at doing a center scoop about an inch or two high....nothing too crazy . I will then add the hood vents from the mustang " black mamba " hood somewhere along the lines of what's in the "horrible" drawing below

this is the rough idea for now . we will play with it once the new hood arrives . since my vehicle is black , it shouldn't be so drastic looking

Custom fender vents

I found some 2011+ explorers on Instagram Autoworksrussia and they have some fender vents that say explorer in them and looks like the letters light up. They have their posts written in Russian so I was just wondering if anyone has seen these vents and any idea on where to order a set from? I've been searching everywhere with no luck. Thanks for any info on wherei could getmy hands on these things

Nice find, I checked them out on instagram and they have some nice Explorers, try writing them on instagram maybe they will respond.

I wrote to them about a photoshop I did that they had posted and they replied that they had actually created my concept

Fender vents

I sent them a message and they gave me an email to use as a contact. In the process of getting all the details. Will keep you posted.

Any update? Excited to see the finished product (hood)

Did some fender vents today. What a feeling taking the sawsall to a perfectly good fender. I'll probably end up painting them black even though they're already black plastic and I'll need to epoxy a few areas to the fender to make it all flush. All in all it worked out.

Your vents by far look one of the best but if they were factory matched you would have one of the best looking fender mods I've seen

NICE! OEM looking for sure.
