Adding friction modifier...

I want to add friction modifier to my rear differential and also to my steering pump. What kind do I get and how do I know how much to put in each. I don't know much about friction modifier but it's my last ditch effort to fix the binding noise I get in slow turns.

Amsoil recommends one four-ounce bottle of Slip-Lock treats differential capacities of two to four quarts.

i dont know about sticking friction modifier into the power steering pump....

Doesn't Ford require a non-friction additive for L/S gear lube? I know some models do but not sure about the explorer.

If you have limited slip you will need friction modifier, however you dont put it in your powersteering.

I don't know what it would do in your power steering. I have never heard of anyone doing that.

So when I change my rear differential fluid, I just add a bottle of the friction modifier to it? Also here is a link that explanes why I thought you could use it in the power steering.

I am 107 miles shy of 100k and have always had full synthetic )( both Mobil 1 and Amsoil ) in the rear and have never used any friction modifiers. Yes, I have the LS rear.

I think the term friction modifier might is kinda vague in that thread. friction modifiers are used in all sorts of oils and other fluids in all vehicles, but friction modifier meant specifically for a rear differental you do not want to put into your power steering. I have seen "friction modifiers" for power steering. I used lucas powersteering additive in my truck and it really helped smooth out the steering.
