I have a 2000 AWD 5.0 and I am getting ready to change the front diff fluid with synthetic. Should I add friction modifier? will it harm it?

Just use Amsoil gear lube and then don't worry about it.

You don't need to add friction modifier. It's only needed in limited slip differentials. It would just be wasting money for your application.

Plus you will make the fluid smell horrible!

It won't hurt it if you have conventional oil, but since you are switching to synthetic you have no use for it. I'm not even sure if you're supposed to mix it with synthetics or not.

Amsoil says if you add friction modifier to there oil nothing bad will happen except the money that you wasted on it.
