Hi everyone,

I recently picked up a 2001 Explorer XLS without the factory lights. I would like to retrofit a set into the existing foglight holes and possibly tie them into the existing lighting. Has anyone out there done this or something similar?

Thanks in advance

iirc fog lights were an option for the XLS, which means all the wiring should be there, and you just have to rig up the stock switch via a new bezel.

if not just get a set of PIAA lights and wire them to the headlight switch so when the headlights come on the PIAA's kick on.

Ok, I have everything in except for the connection from the lights themselves to the harness. Can anyone pass along the location where the lights plug into the harness?

So far everything has a plug together affair with zero modifications but the location on the harness on each side has got me stumped.

Does anyone if in fact I need another little piece of harness under the front bumper to complete the stock setup? I have everything there except what appears to be a harness which is missing the fog light drops. Anyone out there that fill me in?

Just wire them in yourself - use a relay and BAM (!!!), you're good to go.

Is there a good post I can reference from to complete this? I've seen a few but figured ask before diving in.

dooes your radio bezel have the opening for the switch?

Yes it does. I also have the factory switch and all of the factory setup needed to add the lights. The only parts missing appear the front harness that has the pigtails and possibly the relays. I haven't bothered to check for the relays since the physical setup is incomplete.

The Pilot (cheapy) brand 3" round driving lights found at most auto parts houses and Walmart fits perfectly in the bumper and only costs like $17 for the pair, including bulbs. I wired mine up to a separate switch near the headlight switch, not sure how the factory fogs are wired.

I saw those the other day in Autozone. however since I already have the entire stock setup I'll just wire them up. I finally did pick up a set of pigtails from the wrecking yard so now it's just a matter of getting it hooked up properly.

I know its been a while but how did it a go I have a 2000 id like to do the same thing with factory stuff.(maybe upgrade after that to hid, know llot of people don't like that)

The harnesses are next to the ABS plugs in the front.

You can add HIDs, if they don't blind others, no one cares.
