I'm trying to play Miss mechanic and I need some help! As you will see, I am very new at this. Could someone please help me out? Starting with something as simple as putting transmission fluid in a '96 Ford Explorer!
First, how familiar are you with the 'underhood' of your Ex, or cars in general? Not trying to be condescending here, just determining the level of assist desired.
Why do you think that you need to put tranny fluid in? Did someone tell you it was low, did you drain out some, is it leaking, or does your dipstick indicate that the fluid level is low?
Let's start there. Know that too much tranny fluid is bad, just in a different way than too little fluid. So the metric, "if some is good a whole lot more is better", is not true for tranny fluid.
Your should have a dipstick, I seem to recall that it is on the driver's side close to the firewall, but I sold my Gen 2 Ex 8 years ago (have you looked to see where it is and have you checked the level )(properly). Also, do you have the owner's manual for your '96?
Lots of questions, I know, sorry. Just don't want to lead you astray - simple tranny errors can be expensive.
