2003 Explorer XLT
Thinking of purchasing a 2003 Explorer XLT. 81000 miles and in very good condition. One thing- there's a vertical crack in the middle of the tailgate. (No leaks or anything but...) Also door ajar light is on with no doors open. Is this a major problem and would it be costly to repair.

The crack in the tailgate applique is very common, not a big problem IMO just a cosmetic thing. You could get a new piece and have it painted if you want though.

Ronin is right- it's a very, very common design flaw. You can repair, but it's nothing more than a plastic trim piece covering the glass. The glass actually goes all the way to the bottom of that plastic trim, behind it. Nothing to worry about.
