I have a 2005 2wd, and I have the opportunity to purchase the following from a 2003 4x4 sport trac:
5r55e transmission and transfer case
front and rear drive shafts
front axle with the same gearing as my truck
steering knuckles, brakes, bearings, and hubs
all brackets, bolts, etc.

These parts would be coming off a low miles wrecked trac, and I could get all this for less than $800.

I would probably use a cable conversion kit for the transfer case to remove the electric shift motor. I think this would eliminate the need to do any additional wiring, and I prefer manually operated transfer cases anyway.

Do you guys think this is a good deal? I don't want to sell my truck for a 4x4, because I know the history of mine, it runs great and has been very reliable.

If you were interested in 4 wheel drive, would you do it? Any suggestions?

anyone know if the 5r55e in 03 sport trac is interchangeable with an 05?

Should be '01-05 are all 1st Gen Trac's and use the same components.

man if i could get those parts for 800 bucks i would jump on that in a heartbeat! ive played around with the thought of doing what you are planning on, and im keeping my eyes peeled for the right opportunity to come along. i would the right opportunity just crossed your path.

Im really considering it! He is pulling the motor this saturday and I bet i can lend a hand and get the parts for even less.

Only thing im worried about is that I can't drive it to test the trans, guess its just the risk I will take if I go for it.

not a bad deal, a rebuilt tranny like that would cost 800+ alone if you are lucky. for the knuckles, all the little bits, the transfer case, front axle and all that stuff, thats worth 800 right there! at least in ca it is.

Yeah, what gives. I'm an Elite member and this is what comes up.

I think that thread was deleted because it was basically a business venture which requires vendor status. If you have any problems with the deletion of the thread, its content, and so on, please contact the admin "Rick" via PM.

This same message will show up for different things too, like when I try and look at someone album, etc...

Albums can be set private - perhaps thats why. Creator of the album does not want it public.

Lol. Just wondered, now I know. Thanks. Hugh, you start on that Cougar yet ?????? Lol

There's just so much to learn. But no, no luck on the Cougar, yet. Job transition for the wife set us back a couple months ago but we should be back on track next month. Probably be spring before I'm comfortable chasing Cougar parts, though. My wife's not as excited but she has to understand who my first love was.
