92 Sport Eddie Bauer
I recently bought a great 92 Sport Eddie Bauer, very good condition. Has 3.73 L.S., auto, 4x4. Runs good but can't maintain speed very well on hills at highway speed. I'm considering upgrading to a superchip, and better air filter (KNN?). Do these really work, for highway speeds? Can I use regular gas? Any recommendations?
Thanks, Harold

Harold, welcome aboard. The first thing I would do is a complete tune up; replacing the plugs with some Bosch +4s and high performance wires such as Magnacore ( there are many other good ones ). Change ALL fluids.

Then I would improve the intake by adding a HP air filter system ( K & N and KKM are both excellent ). Yes they will definitely improve performance as well as gas mileage.

Next I would visit the local muffler shop and have a custom cat back exhaust system installed.

Good luck and keep us posted on your mods.

Biggest difference in power that I noticed on my old '92 was when I changed to a Flowmaster cat back exhaust system. It cost's about $160 from Dead Link Removed . Best $$ I spent for performance upgrades!!!

If you really want performance, do like me and get a high performance camshaft. Works miracles for an Explorer. Expensive though. Alot of stuff to do as well. I was lucky, I bought mine like that. :)
