yo,

so i have a 10" sub in my rear right pocket of my explorer, but im running the stock speakers. the two front ones are blown and the rear ones are just old. ive heard about the polk 5x7 and 6x9 but they are kinda pricy, plus can I run them off the deck? also, if i go for something a little less expensive what should i get that still sounds good?

also, are there any speakers i should definatley stay away from? any advice is great!

Personally, I would stay away from Polk. Some good brands of speakers, that won't necessarily drain your bank are :memphis, kicker, pioneer(only the higher models), MB Quarts(the low end), and Kenwood(i don't prefer kenwood, but the speakers are alright). Definitely, stay away from Sony. And yes, you can run these off the head unit, although you will not get as good as sound as you could when they are amped.

he mentioned some good brands. i agree to stay away from sony speakers. also stay away from the flea market crap like Pyramid, Legacy, Pyle, Lanzar, Rockwood, and American Pro.

if you want something thats not going to break your wallet and will sound fairly good ran off the stock amp go with some cerwin vega HEDs. i got my pairs for $80 each on ebay. best thing is cerwin vega sticks to there warranty if they should blow. i had one blow and sent it off i got it back in less than 2 weeks. im sure there are better speakers out there too but i have these and they work great for the price and if you decide to amp them man they sound even better nice and chrisp! stay away from cerwin vega stealth series they just total suck thats why they are about 20$ cheaper they blow really easily! Really anything you decide to go with will sound better than the blown stock I know this since mine were blown too. :D

Whats wrong with POLKS???

Personaly, the polks would be my choose. If you're looking for great sound quality, have the time and patience, run a set of 5 1/4" seperates. You'll have to fabricate a plate to hold the 5 1/4" driver and mount the tweeters higher up. Pick up a set of "Cadence" seperates. They run about $100 off of ebay and are wonderful sounding seperates. But...if you would like stock fitting speakers, go to the store and listen to the Polk EX series. They sound quite good to me. Another option...try finding a set of DX7 by polk...they are the higher end and should run about $100s on ebay.

Infinity was not mentioned and they are excellent as well.

I second Sideswipe...

focal is good, diamond auido is good, but for teh lower price, i have the polk 5X7's not the DX7, the other cheaper ones, and i think they sound great. and also i was in circuit city the otehr day picking up some wire and they had them in there on sale for like $60 a pair, so might wnat to check the local one out by u.

If you didn't know already Polks are the same Boston Acoustics. Also if you are really wanting new speakers i would amp them so they won't blow, and sound a hell of a lot nicer. If you like speakers that have loud highs go with a coxial MB Quart. They will probably be around $130/pair or so. Its better to do you install once and take you time planning it. The more you remove door panel and plastics to more likely the Expo is gonna rattle like a motha. And since you are taking you door panels off you might as well install sounddeading material...you will really notice a difference.
