So after many posts, alot of great answers, some hunting, and some luck it looks like i will finally be doing something about my cracked header.

My last question is what after market cat converts can i put on the truck for cheap money that wont mess with the check engine light?

I am not worried about power increase or anything, just something that won't get me denied for emissions. Luckily my X is a 96 which is the cut off year for connecting to the computer only here is NV, so if it isn't throwing check engine codes i should be fine.

Any advice is appreciated.

no aftermarket cat will mess with the O2 sensors or throw a code. All cats do the same job, just have different flow characteristics.

According to my smog guy, and based on actions taken by the California Bureau of Auto Repair, NOT all cats are equal. The smog guy has had folks come in with aftermarket cats that fail worse than the worn out stocker. CA will require a cert on aftermarket cats after 1/09. Fraud is everywhere, cats are no exception. Buyer beware.

I have a set of Magnaflow front converters for sale if you are interested. They are in the for sale section. PM me if you are interested.
