Air Bag and Cruise problem???

Hey Guys, my 05 air bag light flashed at me today and my cruise control only works sometimes.

I did a search and it seems like there is some consensus that in cold weather this can happen...it was about 20 degress F here this morning. but, it has been cold all winter here.

Anyone else experience this? Are the two even related?

Don't want to bring it in to the dealer if I don't have to; I have the extended care ESP, but I do not think air bags are covered.

If your air bag light flashes count the flashes and relay the number here. It will be a two digit code repeated several times, i.e. ** ***** ** ***** ** ***** for 25. Being your issue involves both the air bag and the cruise it may be the clock spring under the steering wheel. The two could also be unrelated. I'd have to look it up but the older models require a recall on the cruise switch to keep them from going up in smoke.
Edit: '05's don't show a cruise switch recall but ask your dealer when you take it in.

Naturally, my air bag light has stopped flashing. The service department told me not to bring in the car unless the light is flashing, because when they hook up the car to their computer, the computer will think everything is OK because the light is not flashing. Does this sound right to you?

I have 44,700 miles, and the dealer told me that the SRS (air bag and seat belts) are still under warranty until 5/50,000...I should have known that!

Does your horn work? The codes should be stored if the problem still exists.

I don't know if body/air bag faults/codes are stored in the BCM like engine fault/codes are in the PCM. If it flashes again be sure to count the flashes.

Yes, my horn works. Perhaps I will bring it in and force them to look at it. If I do, any testing or diagnostics should be covered under the SRS warranty, no?

Do you know where the malfunction is? If so, buy wherever it's the cheapest.
I checked and the SAFETY RECALL 05S28 doesn't apply to the '03 and later Sport Tracs.

oh. i have no idea where the malfunction is but i got mad and pushed hard enough to break the tabs(great design). it just slowly got worse and worse. i have a feeling its the brake pedal thing. since someone else had theirs do the exact same thing i am gonna crawl under there and and pull it apart and clean the contacts. i will let you know. thanks for the concern! i am new here and its great!!!
