If you choose not to repair it till summer , do yourself a favor and disconnect the plug to the AC compressor so the clutch dosent get toasted and the compressor dosent get toasted from lack of oil flow .
If it's a R134 system , get a can from local parts store and a tap kit and put the 134 in . If it leaks out fast , be looking for oil on ac lines / compressor and or any other A/c parts . If you can't find the leak by oil residue and or you do find oil , spray soapy water on the area(s) that you think r leaking . If they are leaking and you have any freon (or 134 ) in it you will see bubbles (duh) .
Ive had A/C leaks at work that were so slow a sniffer wouldnt find them , but soapy water in a spray bottle would .
Also , it's best for you to run your compressor ( turn the AC on) every couple days during the winter time . I know it's cold but if the compressor dosent run during the winter , the front seal can dry out (oil helps seal the ceramic seals) and can actually leak freon/R134 from no-use .
