Hi this is my first post been poking around the forum. I was interested in the AMSOIL air filters. I been to their website. I don't like the K&N filters cause they don't filter as much dirt but the amsoil claim they filter out more dirt. Has anyone used them and like them?

Oh gees AgExplorer is going to have fun with this one....Let the rep'ing begin! lol

Iggy,

I have used the AMSOIL air filter for about 3 years. They work as advertised. Approximately 40% of engine wear can be attributed to dirt coming in through the air intake system. You'll definitely see an improvement in performance along with reduced engine wear. Everyone I know who has used one has given me glowing recommendations.

Hello

It is the first time that I heard about Amsoil air filters, but all my friends have in their cars and suv's K&N and we dont have any complaim about it.

Please let me know (if you buy the filter) it is good, always is good to know about other brands.

i was checking out a toyota message board, about 4 runners, and they ALL use amsoil, they all said for them k&n decreased performance, but i dunno, i mean i use the kkm system, which its pretty much k&n

Just who are the 4-Runner guys anyway? I've been running Buicks for a few years now and every Buick guy I know swears by the K&N. They're the way to go. 600 HP from a 3.8 liter V-6. Use a K&N - you won't lose power!

(I'm sure to gt flamed for the Buick interjection part...)

I put the amsoil foam Filter, oil, and oil filter in my F-250 work truck(5.8L) and definitely noticed a throttle response improvement, but the gas mileage improvement was selling point for me! 14.2 up from 11.8. I drive 100 miles a day round trip and with gas @1.75 per gallon it won't take long to pay for itself. Now I just need to change the gaskets in the navajo so i can switch it over.

Thanks for the info, Agexplorer I been telling my son that 40% of wear is from teenagers driving. lol K&N do let in more air but along with it more dirt. I want it to last dont think, I will be selling it anytime soon. Keep the dirt out baby!

I have not switched from the disposable (Fram etc.) style filter because I have yet to see any hard data that says the K&N, Amsoil, etc. filters do a better job of removing dirt from the incoming air. Sure, they may flow more air, but is the dirt-removal capability the same? Remember that increased airflow=increased hole size in the filter elelment=increased potential for dirt particles to pass through. Yeah, the race teams use them, but their desire is max airflow and not necessarily efficient filtration. Remember that they rebuild their engines all the time as a routine matter... We have a trade-off here in that we all want better performance and better mileage BUT we need max dirt removal capability because most of us don't rebuild our engines all the time. I use an oiled-foam element filter on my dirt bike but it gets cleaned and re-oiled after every couple hours of use.

Where does the figure come from that says that 40% of engine wear comes from dirt in the incoming combustion air?

Until I see the hard data and science behind any of this I'm not switching. Maybe some of you guys have the info? I'd love to see it!
