This is great information....

My air ride compressor is on alot....its always adjusting itself for different conditions and loads....when a bunch of my friends jump in the little compressor kicks on and levels everything....I also dig the lift it does when I put the little switch to "off road"

I just hope the 2" body lift I'm going to do dosn't mess with it

well I've decided what I'm going to do after much debate in my head... I'm going to lower w/ TT and blocks and then use the ride height sensor to tweak it to the exact level I want... Here is a pick of the rear sensor, sorry it is blurry.

yeah i found the rear sensor too..im tryin to figure out a way to move the sensor so the truck lift's more then stock....still workin on it lol

OK - I went out and took off both the sensors and held them down with bungie cords. I got .7 drop outta the front and nothing out of the rear. soo..... I'm going to boominXplorer's place tomorrow to drop it and then we'll see what happens.... pics coming

if you do this, make sure you watch how much you pull the sensor down (it is like a shock)... the pin or whatnot will come out and you then have to try and stick it back in. (i dont know if that made sense)

rear sensor pulled down.

front sensor tied to the rim w/ another bungie cord

ok punks... to lower your explorer you need to fab up a bracket to raise the front sensor... I'll have pics tomorrow.

I think what I'm going to do is buy a voltometer and figure out exactly what kinda signal is being sent out by these things. I'm tired of these sensors running my life... I'm going to take control of my ARC once and for all. I'm going to run the wire to a moveable resistor and I'll have really slow bags. Anyways - I have to convince myself to get a voltometer first

if you do that...and i could use it to lift..you would be a god in my book..

All it does is make the top higher and make it think its at normal hight, but it really isn't. Go ahead patrick do your write up about it and add it to your pinstriping one :p

bite me boomin... bite me

I put it in 4x4 low to get the 2" or so raise outta it... it rides a LOT better now. I'm going to change the sensor bracket to compensate. Ugh, I need to do this all soon, b/c I want to get this baby aligned before I chew through all my tires.

The lift of the 4x4 low only added < 1" to the front/rear. It looks a little better now I think... more tastefully lowered now. I'll post about what I end up doing later.

Ride

Hydroxy,

You say your truck rides much better, I am suprised, my 96 Limited has over 100,000 miles, and the ride is awesome, you dont even know its a truck, and when I put my truck in 4wd auto, the ride starts to get a little harsh, but it is still very good.

Are you saying it now rides way better in 4wd Auto? Or 4wd low?

What is it like in 2wd?

I have owned alot of cars and trucks, and this one is by far the best driving for what it is, I think that very little could be improved in the ride and handling other than an independent rear suspension.

mine rides best in 2wd..in 4x4 i can't tell the differance..but that's with the arc stock..with it the way i have it now in 4x4 the ride's nice but not as nice as in 2wd..but now with my ARC lift it's a little harsh

his is ride is worse cause he has been playing with the sensor's like me..lol

it rode crappy in 2wd b/c the sensors were moved up enough so that they weren't compressed at all (meaning that the shocks were at their lowest possible setting). I had also loosened the torsion bars, so the suspension was a lot looser. Since I'm lowered, when I put it in 4x4 low, it basically just puts more air into the shocks making them firmer but only raises it about 1" since the torsion bars dont help as much. This helps compensate for the loosened torsion bars.

I dont know if this sounded confusing or not. I'll try and explain better if that didn't make sense. basically my 4x4 low isn't comparable to a stock 4x4 low.

Update!!!!!!

ok, I took a voltometer to the yellowish wire that connects to the sensor... with NO pressure on it, I got 2.07 volts. Fully compressed, I got 4.1 volts (range of 2volts).

What I plan on doing is cutting that wire, and putting a variable resistor in there that I can change from inside the car. Anyone have any ideas how to do this or what kinda sliding resistor I can use? I plan on having the senor always fully compressed (putting out 4.1v) and then have the resistor at max so that the computer only get 2v, and then be able to slide it up to where it doesn't interfere and all 4v get through.

thanks for any help.. I wanna get this done in the next couple days, so quick replys please!!! =P

I have a 96 eddie bauer. I am not sure if I have air ride control. I have only seen the message once on the display. It said Air Ride Control Off. Does this mean that I have it and that it isnt on?..or could i not even have this option at all. Exactly how do I enable it?
thanks.

yes you shouls have it then..go back to where your jack is take the cover off..if you have a switch back there that say's off..and somwthing about air ride..you have it

Thanks, i will look. Do you know if the switch is out in the open, or is it hidden behind the computer box?
