Just this morning i started my '96 XLT and the airbag light lit (standard operation) and then began to blink four times, twice, giving error code 44, before becoming a steady light. Anyone else have a similar problem....ideas? Cost? I hate relying on the dealer but i may be SOL this time.

If the codes for a '96 are the same as a '95, then a 44 code indicates that the right hand primary crash sensor has a high resistance to ground (3.0 Ω or greater in relation to a reference ground). There's a good chance there is some corrosion between the sensor bracket and the mounting point on the body.

Not to change the subject but,
Okrazie, how did you get the ohm symbol ?

great Question Monmix, perhaps a modified, :mattmoon:
