I've had the air bag light come on twice in a fortnight, haven't managed to catch the code it flashes as I'm always driving at the time! Switching her off and on again seems to clear the fault.

It seems to come on after heavy rain, or this could be a coincidence. The first time it illuminated I had a small amount of water our down from the compass/light unit.

Anything common I should look for? I know it's hard without a code.

Also, I had the immobiliser light come on while driving, didn't affect the way it drove and disappeared when I switched her off and on again. Should I worry?

It came on again today, flashes 2 then 3 anyone know what this code is?

Does your cruise control work ok?

It might be a bad connection in the steering wheel.[intermitent]

Have you checked the air bag sensors behind the bumper for good connection. Water might be getting in and causing a short.
Hope this helps.
Kev.

Here are the airbag codes.

A flashing airbag light can mean one of two things. The first possibility is that your battery is in death throes. Have it tested at your local auto parts store. The second possibility is that there is an actual problem with the airbag system. Below is a list of airbag codes, which will flash on the warning light. For example, the light will flash once, pause and then flash twice == 12.

12=Low Battery Voltage
13=Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground
14=Primary Crash Sensor Circuit Shorted to Ground
21=Safing Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
22=Safing Sensor Output Shorted to Battery Voltage
23=Safing Sensor Circuit Input Feed/Return Circuit Open
24=Safing Sensor Output Feed/Return Circuit Open
32=Driver Side Air Bag Circuit High Resistance or Open
33=Passenger Side Air Bag Circuit High Resistance or Open
34=Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Low Resistance or Shorted
35=Passenger Side Air Bag Circuit Low Resistance or Shorted
41=RH Primary Crash Sensor Feed/Return Circuit Open
42=LH Primary Crash Sensor Feed/Return Circuit Open
44=RH Primary Crash Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
45=LH Primary Crash Sensor Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly
51=Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse. Fuse Blown Due to Intermittent Short to Ground
52=Backup Power Supply Voltage Boost Fault
53=Primary Crash Sensor Circuits Resistance to Ground or Air Bag Diagnostic Fault

Hope this helps.
Please be very careful when working on airbag system. The system is live all the time. You will need to disconnect the battery and leave for at least 20 mins to be sure the system is not armed. Never use a powered tester or personal injury can occur if a bag goes off.

Rear SENSORS are also known as safing sensors as their function is to determine that a crash has occurred. Rear safing sensors are located in various locations in the passenger compartment depending on the manufacturer. Some are intergrated with the Control/Diagnostic Module.

Thanks that's loads of help. It seems to only happen after a heavy downpour so maybe water is getting in somewhere. Thanks for the list howard, very comprehensive.

Once again, thanks for the help guys!

Have a look at this
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109287&highlight=airbag+light

A few pages to read through. Mine and aldive(poster on above) have the code 3 7 which isnt mentioned above.

People have disconnected the yellow plug underneath the seats, blown into it, which cures it for a while.

The last post mentions moving the yellow connector from being attached to the seat because the strain on it changes the voltage. just tried this, seems to work for now
