My '04 Mountaineer recently developed a problem with the SRS system.
The SRS warning light flashes error code 42; I believe it is the front driver's side crash sensor. Is this correct? and if so, where is it located?

The sensor is located inside the pillar between the driver and passenger seat. (B pillar) You should try to clean the connector. It is the yellow connector under the drivers seat.
Pull it apart and clean.

Thanks for the reply- I pulled the yellow connector apart and cleaned the contacts w/ an electrical contact cleaner and reassembled; no luck, same problem  I guess its time to replace the crash sensor; any idea what this puppy costs? I tried locating it inside the B-pillar; I cannot find it- I looked high and low; I must be blind!

They are typically around the 80 mark for a sensor. The sensor is located pretty much right behind the lower bolt for the seatbelt. There are a few pieces to come out to get to it but you will see it right at floor level.
