Alarm and remote locking

My 96 died too. What did the dealer tell you the reason was? I had a tech from Allexperts.com say that static electricty from the seats short ou the control module. He sent me a service bulletin but I never fixed it. I think at $400 I can live without it. If the junkyard thing is possible let me know what you pay for it.

On my 96 xlt I have the factory alarm remote locking system and it stopped working. The dealer has told me that the computer that controls the system is no good. However at almost 400 dollars I can not replace it. I was wondering if I could pull one from a junkyard and then reprogram it to work with my fob?

The dealer only said that it was shorted they did not give a reason. I haven't started calling around to find out about a used replacement yet.
