So my alarm has been going off for about a month and a half randomly. It often goes off in the middle of the night. It goes off without anyone touching it or near it.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

How can I fix it, or at the least disarm it so it stops pissing everyone of my neighbors off?

I have this same thing happening. I think I've narrowed it down to a power drain problem where the battery goes below a certain level and then the alarm goes off.

Until I can figure out where the drain is, how can I disable the alarm? This is the factory alarm or pats or whatever it is. It's driving me insane! I wouldn't worry about it too much, but my neighbors have a young daughter and waking her up in the middle of the night is not cool.

Please someone help me bypass the factory alarm soon!

Pull the fuse for the horn. :) The lights will just blink for about 3-4 minutes. Thats what my friend does when I go with him to repo cars.

ahaha I have the same problem with the alarm going off in the middle of the night.. strange that we all have 98 explorers ;)

This must all be done within 30 seconds or it will not work. If there are any problems let me know. It worked on mine. This is for 97 and up Explorers.

Here is how to disable the factory alarm step by step.

Step 1: Put key into ignition (do not turn key).

Step 2: Turn ignition to the on positon.

Step 3: Push unlock 3 times at the drivers door.

Step 4: Turn the ignition off (do not remove the key).

Step 5: Push unlock 3 times at the drivers door.

Step 6: Turn the ignition to the on position.

Step 7: The horn will chirp.

Step 8: After the chirp, push unlock 1 time, and then lock 1 time.

Step 9: The horn should sound.

Step 10: Turn the ignition to off (do not remove the key)

Wait one minute and you should be deactivated.

Once this is done, I do not know how to re-activate it. If anyone knows please IM me. I have tried all scenarios and could not get it to re-activate.

You forgot the clap your hands 3 times step.

Holy crap! Where did you find that out?!

German Site

I got it off of a German Explorer web site here in good ole Schnitzel land. The site is www.explorerteile.de If you can read German LOL!!!! I hope this helps some people. I am doing some research on the factory alarms to come up with some more answers.

That sequencing hasn't worked for me. The one thing I did find out, in the owner's manual no less, is leave the drivers door open, lock it twice with the remote. It'll chirp twice, and you can close the door. 2 chirps means no alarm.

Has anyone been able to veryify what the cause of this is? I have a '98 Mountaineer, and I have the same issues here as well. I would like to be able to have my neighbors smile at me again! :)

I had this same problem with my sploder. I replaced the hood switch. (Passenger side, between coolant res and air filter box). Problem went away. An easy way to test this is to cut the hood switch off and twist the two wires together and tape off. If your alarm problem goes away then that is your problem.

The only thing that the steps above from 99Euro did for me was shut off the autolock (as a side note, repeating the same steps re-enabled it). So for now, I'll just have to pull the horn lead.

I tried pulling just the horn fuse, and then the horn relay, but in both instances, the curise control stopped working. What's that all about?
