- 1997 Mercury Mountaineer
Hi all. I am new to the forum but have looked on here a few times. I have a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer that I have had for many years. It has a whopping 88,300 miles on it......lol
A few questions though.
1. I went to get in my car yesterday morning and it wouldnt start. Tried to jump it and nothing. The starter would click but thats it, it wouldnt even roll over. I asked my friend to look at it and he said that he unhooked the starter and cleaned to wires, unhooked the battery and cleaned the terminals and hooked everything back up and it started. Then the alarm went off 10 minutes later all on its own. They used the key and unlocked the door and it went out and the thing started just fine. Anyone have this issue before?
2. The alarm went off again tonight all on its own. I used the key and unlocked the doors and it went off and it started fine. Has this happened to anyone before?
My thought though is this. The alarm went off when I was either at work or out during the evening and when I went to get in it it wouldnt start because the vehicle was already unlocked. With not working the lock I figure that it never reset the alarm.
The only other issues with the car are that the batteries are dead in the key fob now. Getting the new ones tomorrow. The radio and 6-disc changer work 100% but the only light on the radio that works is the clock. With the headlights turned off I can see the O/D OFF light if I take the thing out of overdrive, but when I turn the lights on it goes out.
Is there some type of inline fuse that would have blown making the lights go out on the radio? Also, would it be linked to the O/D OFF light to go off on the dash when the lights are turned on?
Sorry for all the questions guys but figured you folks would know the most!
