Hi folks, i'm a new member to the site and have a loud problem.
My alarm wont turn off, i have had to turn it off by disconnecting the battery.
The alarm was triggered by a rear door which doesent lock properly. I opened this door and tripped the alarm, i have tried a new battery in the key fob, locking and unlocking all doors manually and so on. The key fob is not locking any or unlocking any of the doors, the immobiliser is not switching to start the car etc etc i've even tried kicking the tyres and shouting at it, but that dosent work either??

Please help, my head is fried.

Nick.

However the disconnecting the main battery as far as I am aware only resets the Engine management computers, but if you do this you need to have it disconnected at 15-20 minutes to reset all the systems.

My problem was caused by parking too close to the local telephone exchange with all its mobile and microwave transmitters, and they do swamp the remote unit
The way round the problem is to point the remote with new battery at the passenger side rear panel just to the left and approx 15cm up from the top of the fuel filler and makeing sure that the little red LED on the remote is showing brightly and it should lock and unlock the X.
According to the RAC here, it is a known problem with the 97's
Let me know how you get on

John

By the way the rear door that doesn't lock properly, had the same problem, try unscrewing the plastic cover(leaving the steel rod visible) and see if it works when you get the remote locking to work.

One other thing you could try is manually locking the X with the main battery disconnected ie pushing buttons down and then locking last door with the key. reconnect the battery and close the bonnet and leave it over night.
Try with the remote as previous post in the morning
cheers

What is up with that??

John,
great stuff. That worked a treat. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of my parents home when this took place. My father had just got his new Alfa and we were both bemused over the explorer last night. This morning when he got up to get in his new car he couldnt get in and the alarm started to sound. I put my key fob on the n/side as you sugggested and my explorer unlocked and the alarm reset. But we couldnt figure what was swamping the signal to the immobiliser. After a bit of detective work we figured out that the doorbell on dads house was a remote to a bell in the kitchen. We disconnected it and the explorer worked again perfect and dad could now get into his new car as well. So needless to say the doorbell is in the bin and everything is back to normal??!

Thanks for your help.

Nick.

Where can you purchase parts other than the local Ford dealer??

You can get any part you want from http://www.usauto.co.uk/ . There are others too it depends on what parts you require. Glad you got the alarm sorted.

I can supply parts for your Explorer. I have in stock genuine American Ford service parts. I can supply anything you require. Ford dealers in UK do not keep very many parts for the Explorer now so they have to be ordered and then they go on back order so you can wait a while for parts. I import parts dierct from states via a Ford dealer I can supply the parts that are only fitted to UK spec Explorer for these aswell from the states I would need your vin number of you Explorer.

Check my website www.svpo.uk.com I am still adding things to it so it is not quiet finished. You can email me from there.

Cheers!!

Thanks for all the replies and info where to get parts.
The site is a great help!!!!! Keep it up. ;)
