I have an unusual problem. My 2000 xlt would not start. I jumped it and it worked, so I replaced the battery. It worked for a few days and then it would not start. It would make no noise. I noticed that if I turned the alarm on and off that it would start after this. Any ideas on how to fix this? It is factory installed alarm.

Does the factory alarm have a starter immobilizer?

I don't know. How can I check?

Maybe your manual will say something about it. Does your alarm have remote start?

How are "turning the alarm on and off"?

It does not have remote start, but does have keyless entry. If I unlock the door with the remote and don't start the car fast enough (a few minutes) it won't start and I have to turn off/on. I don't have the manual.

I turn off/on with remote.

So arm then disarm. I'm thinking it's got the immobilizer but after you disarm it should turn off until you arm again. May be a problem with the brain or a bad connection or relay, if that's the culprit. That's all I can think of since you can start after disarm. Not sure if they still use this. Does your key have the little "chip" on it?
