Hi there! We just bought a 2010 Explorer from a Lexus dealership, so we got no instructions on the alarm system. We have since learned it has a valet system included under the dash, and if we exit the car by using the power door lock instead of the key fob, it activates this valet thing, and the next time I get in the car, when I insert the key, it won't start and the alarm goes off and I can't shut it off. We took it to a Ford dealership and were told to not use the power door lock to lock the car, but to use the key fob only. So then why is the power door lock switch even there if I can't use it? The owners guide has three confusing pages on the power door lock, but ever mentions that it activates the valet system. I asked Ford if the valet system could be removed, but they said it is 'integral' to the alarm system.
My 2005 Freestyles system is so easy to use compared to this.
That alarm has gone off on me so many times on this Explorer and left me stranded because the valet system won't let the engine start.I'm afraid to touch the car! Are there any clearer instructions (for Dummies) that talk about this valet system? I can't find anything in the owners manual.
