Alarm

Can anyone advise me how i arm the alarm on a 99T Explorer. I have followed the instructions in the manual but there is no flashing from the indicators and hitting the lock key twice on the fob achieves nothing. Is it indeed fitted with an alarm. How do I check.
Its an English model and this mesage is being posted from England.

Here's a way to test...

Open one of your doors' window, shut the door, lock it with your remote. Wait about 30 secs then reach your hand in and open the door. The alarm should go off.

On my '97 the "Theft" light will start flashing after 30 seconds of being armed. Until then it is just a solid "Theft" light. As 96explorereddiebauer said, you can try waitin 30 seconds and then open a door. If the horn starts honking, you have an alarm. Since you said you don't get any response out of it by pressing "Lock" twice, I suspect that you don't have one. Ford started eliminated items that used to be standard in a way to keep the price down. The alarm might have been one of them. If your horn doesn't honk when pressing "Lock" twice and your "Theft" light doesn't flash after 30 seconds of being armed, then you don't have an alarm.

Robert, don't the European Explorers have a different configuration for the alarm?? I know the Japanese market Explorers won't honk at all. They only flash the lights if the alarm goes off. Let me check my shop manual and see...

That may be so, I don't know about the European version Explorer. What I posted applies to my US version '97.

Ford started leaving the basic alarm wiring in place, but leaving the full alarm as a dealer option in some models. possibly this is the case with yours?

thanks to those who replied to my european alarm problem.

It does have an alarm and by locking my son in and him openning the door from inside we set the alarm off.

there is no way from outside of knowing that the alarm has been set.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Explorer ownership!
What make of LPG system did you get installed? The only one that I have heard of that works properly is an Italian one but it costs ca 2K. Someone I know who breaks Explorers for a living has sold every single fuel injection system he has had (more than 10) to people with LPG systems that caught fire! Let's hope yours is not one of those!

As your alarm does seem to work, does it have a small rectangular fob with one button and a Robert Bosch makers tag printed on it? If so it is the original Ford UK system. It's entirely possible that the bulb in the dash has gone. When you switch the ignition on it should illuminate along with all the other "telltales" (ABS, 4X4 High etc) and then go out as the engine starts. It's red and circular. On my '97 X it blinks fast for 30 seconds and then more slowly after that when armed. Hope this helps

I really should learn to read things properly. I missed your comment abount the indicators not flashing - they should flash when arming and disarming the system. You may have a wiring problem but a decent Ford dealership should be able to fix this (IF you find such a dealer let us all know please)

figured it was something to do with propane, how much was that conversion? i read about someone cramming a 6.8 (7.3??) truck engine into a crown vic, and converting it to propane, cheaper than gas, and more power.....

Thanks for the info the alarm works well.

Now LPG does stand for liquid propane gas. There is only ONE system suitable for a Ford Explorer and that is one made in Holland by AG. They are the only company to make vehicle specific systems hence its a great piece of kit.

Its a sequential mulitiinjection system whereby they place a 96 litre tank under the car. and a colour coded filler cap is placed in the bumper or were ever you chose.

Inside the car you have a small LED gauge and a switch should you run out of gas and want to return to petrol

the car starts on petrol and automatically switchs to gas.

There is no loss of performance and comes with a very extensive warranty.
Only use an LPGA approved installer and LGP association have a website.

It cuts fuel bills by half and is definately on the increase with 2000 sites for filling across the UK and two new sites a week. All humberside police vehicles and government vehicles run on LPG and most manufactures are offering it on new cars as an option Jaguar V8 and Mondeos. The kits must conform to european safety standards. So the fire story seems abit unlikely. No increase on insurance provided u use an authorised installer

Two draw backs, arn't there always, it cost £2000 and u lose the spare wheel but with the puncture injection foam who needs it. Saving about 50% on your current fuel bill

Any more info just ask and do Ford do Nudge bars for the front and fog light kits for above the bumper
