Ah yes, the infamous alignment tool. Well, slight problem. The tool has 4 bushings (various ones needed with various pumps used over the years) and a handle they screw into. ATEC Trans tool makes a set, you can check it on their website www.atec-trans-tool.com. They do not sell directly so you will have to find a supplier. The FORD factory tool was contained in the 1974 (Yes, that's right 1974, shows the heritage on the c-3/A4LD link) tool kit. The Ford number (I think it was Owatonna making Ford tools back then) is 74P (the P designation meant transmission I think)-77103 A-H. A,B,C, and D are bushings, H is the handle. You may try calling Owatonna, they have a website and a phone service. In case it helps you save buying more than one bushing let me give you the ID's on then (they fit the pump shaft) Here goes:
T74P-77103-A 32.925 MM
T74P-77103-B 32.950 MM
T74P-77103-C 32.975 MM
T74P-77103-D 33.000 MM
Handle is needed, 77-103-H. May save you some money to just order the one that is closest to the shaft diameter.
They will set you back upwards of a couple hundred... unless... <heheh> You buy the whole damn tool set on E-bay!
I bought a couple on E-Bay (first was slightly incomplete) for about $125 or so each (average price). You are looking for the 74P-1000 tool set. C-3 Transmission. Hope this helps
Happy Exploring
CHRIS
ps. This is an ESSENTIAL tool for ANY A4LD and progeny rebuild IMHO.
correction. I no sooner read my post than I realized that P did NOT mean transmission, it mean passenger car I think. The 77000 series was reserved for transmission tools (it all changed in the 90's to something incomprehensible to me).
I was sitting here thinking.. ya know, with a lathe or access to a machine shop you ought to be able to fabricate one more cheaply than buying one, if you only had the dimensions. So, here they are
O.D. of bushing 1.615 in
ID to fit your shaft OD, but in the kit (in inches this time)
A= 1.2965
B= 1.2975
c= 1.2985
d= 1.2995
In fabricating one, you would not of course need the detachable handle. Hope this helps someone.
How common are they on E-Bay? Well like most things there it's catch as catch can. I have seen 4 sets go in the past 8 months or so, but not a one in the last couple months. Go figure. Just go to E-Bay motors and run a search using the word "Rotunda" and you will find all the tool sets being offered. One WILL show up. When is another matter.
hey, i would like to rebuild my 5r55e. i need to replace some valve body gaskets and need some minimum tools, but i hear that the dealers wont sell you them. is this true? where can i buy these tools except from ebay which is limited?
if i wanted to buy tools to rebuild the entire transmission, how much money am i looking at? what tools are a necessity and what tools can i go without?
it seems like it would be a fortune to buy all the tools to rebuild the whole transmission. i was just looking at www.express-tool.com
i just really need to replace the valve body gaskets and the low/reverse servo gasket. seems like i only need alignment pins for the valve body if i need them at all.
do i need the tool to replace the low/reverse servo gasket? it seemed like it was $130 or something on express tool.
