I'm having a VERY hard timing finding a synchronizer alignment tool for my 95 Explorer 4.0. It's a pushrod engine. Local stores like Autozone or O'REILLY only have the tools for 96 3.0.

I bought a Dorman Camshaft Position Sensor 689-110 and can't find the alignment tool that will help me get the part into the right place.

Does anyone know where I can get this tool or a part number?

The caps from the local parts stores don't go over the synchronizer.
I'm going to post a pic of the synchronizer.

I will do my best to provide any more details as needed.

This kit at rockauto, under 5 bux, has all of them

Listed under 2000 V8 in ignition section

The info listed for the Explorer is for 96-01

I need one to fit a 95. The ones I've tried only line up.

Look at the link again. Firs set with 5 tools. The one on far left, scroll thru pics to see bottom view. That looks like the one you need

so the one marked with the blue arrow?
Even though in the part info showing the blue line it is for 1996-2001?

This will work for a 4.0 1995 Explorer?

Look at top 5 piece set. You are looking at 4 piece set

Left one, grey color. For 4 bux and change it's worth a shot

No such thing as a tool which fits 1996-2001. There are at least 4 different for that year range
My 2000 used the black one for instance.

I'm assuming each tool fits a specific year

The part you are suggesting doesnt look like it would be deep enough to fit

The 95 X vin does not used a alignment tool. The

Synchronizer has a window on it . per your part number. See my writeup on installing it.

This is the alignment tools. Look at the long line and the short line on the window. The edge of the vane is in the background. 1/2 line initial, full line is final. Some replace units do not have the short line. you just need to have the full Line at the edge of the vane ( right side if vane)at final installation point.

Bingo!! 94 and 95 use the sight glass sensor not alignment tool

However instead of re using the 95 sight glass sensor you should seriously consider installing a 1996 cam synchronizer and use the 96 alignment tool

The 94/95 cam synchro can no longer be purchased and many many forum member that have gone before you have used the 96 style synchro

If you must use the 95 sight glass sensor then I have posted the instructions for the proper alignment on this forum more than once. They old Haynes manual had a detailed section on install and setup

Hello
I didn't realize that I could use a 96 part in my 95.
Could you possibly tell me exactly which synchronizer I would actually need?
I went to rockauto to look and there seems to be a few options
My Explorer details: 1995 Ford Truck Explorer 2WD 4.0L FI OHV 6cyl

I appreciate any and all help on getting the right part.

Some parts mention 123mm or 133 mm shaft as well.

Yes there are two different heights it is silly…

Can you measure the shaft on your 95 synchro?

The 96-97 trucks use a similar 3 wire sensor,
They simply got rid of the sight glass setup

94-95 were the first years of the cam synchronizer lol

There are some threads on this forum about the proper procedure for using the 96 sensor let me see if I can search them out

Forgive me but what part am I supposed to actually measure on the synchronizer?

Looks like the 123mm unit to me! But let’s find the threads of those who went before us!

I believe the distance they reference is the mounting flange to tip as show in red

Yup 123mm 3 wire

So I looked up a 1996 Ford Truck Explorer 2WD 4.0L FI OHV 6cyl on Autozone. Again my truck is a 1995 2WD 4.0.

But for the 96 I found this part on Autozone
Synchronizer

it's 123mm
Would this work on my 95?

Yes that is the correct part
It should come with the alignment tool? Many of them do anymore

I believe you will also need the wiring pigtail, I do not think the 95 wiring plug fits the 96 sensor
Did yo read the threads I posted?
