Today I installed a codealarm tw-1 into my 2001 explorer sport. Well, I did a bonehead manuever and grounded the black and blue wire, which should be hot when the doors are open. Mine were open. So something blew. I cannot find the fuse. I did a check on all fuses under hood and inside the fuse panel.

I did a search on this forum already. I have checked fuse #27. Everything else works, radio, windows etc. The running boards lights, and rear lights, and dome is dead

I've been doing more reading. Do I have GEMS? My center console with the direction and temp still works.

Basically the puddle lights, dome light, map light and rear lights are MIA. They don't even work if I try manually. I will see if I can find the relay tomorrow since it is too dark to do anything without light

do u think the bulbs went if the fuse's didnt? the fuses are there to protect the bulbs though so they should be dead...unless a wire got hot and melted the inulation? i dunno man sry i cant help thats one thing i havent broken on a car yet =) =) =) lol

Its either the relay or the fuse. But then again you said you tried testing them directly. You mean you took the + and - wires and connected them directly to the battery and it still did not light up? If that is the case then your bulb is no good. Highly unlikely that you will blow all the bulbs at one time but I've seen crazier things.

How do I test my relays?

It makes a clicking sound when it gets power from the battery.

Umm, what was I thinking :D

Well my mind is clearer today. I checked both sides of fuse 27. No voltage is getting to the fuse at all. So now I need to find the relay. I don't think it is under the dash as it said in one post I found. I would have seen it since I was under there for several hours yesterday. There are about a dozen relays under the hood in the underhood fuse box. Is it one of those?

The saga continues. I have located the relay box in the rear near the hatch, and the one under the dash. I have found conflicting posts, and unfortunately nobody has had this problem with a 2001+ sport :( From what I have read one of these relays should be the culprit. I tried moving some relays around in both. Nothing happened. I bought some alligator clips so I can build a little tester to help me out.

On my car the rear box had 4 small relays. The under dash one had a large blue one, a normal looking black one, and 4 small ones.

Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram?

I think I am at the point where I need a service manual.

For some reason this particular one is very expensive :(

Thanks! :D

I am looking for anything that could blow in the path involving the blue and black wire that is hot when the doors are opened and the interior lights come on. I think fuse 27 is involved. And some relays. Either the ones under the dash or the ones near the hatch door.

So in a nutshell, as much of an electrical path as you can give me. If any other fuses could be related that would be nice to know. Do you have AIM or MSN or yahoo?

i get confused with all the coils relays and fuses. i can send you an image of the cd if you are not on dialup. my yahoo name is silenze and my aim is in my profile

I was installign my glow gauges and i found relays for the interior under my dash. They are right bewside the door dinger. I dont know how much different yours is from mine but thats where mine are. Have you checked there?

Door dinger??? That is the thing that makes sound when the door is open? The ones under the dash are running vertical, and closer to the center console.

I found it :D

For 2001 explorers the interior light fuse is #26. I guess when I did the continuity check with my dmm, I must have had my leads backwards :banghead: So it would have detected voltage on the bad fuse.

For reference, the players involved in the interior lights for 2001 are fuse 26, the gem/ctm (located above the relays in the dash somewhere), interior lamp relay, battery saver relay (both located in that cluster of relays under the dash) and lastly the dimmer module on the dash.

Why does ford not put a fuse diagram on the panel like every other car manufacturer? This should have taken 2 minutes to find the problem.

Thanks a million silenzed. A wiring diagram is worth a thousand words :)

the wirering diagram is in your owners manual

That will work.

Well I plugged in the fuse and my alarm went off as the lights came on. Mission accomplished :D
