As in a previous post I indicated that my 94 was loosing transmission fluid. Well.. I haven't seen any place where it is going. I do seem however to have a engine oil leak. I changed my engine oil about 3 weeks ago and now there's more in there than when I filled it.

I think I know where the Tranny fluid is going but how is it getting there? Is there any line from the transmission that during a service might have been crossed up and tied to the engine? Boy am I baffled, I do my own service so I know nobody has added oil.

By the way the oil is over the mark by about a inch and I suspect is being pushed out the rear seal

jhayes: My advice is to check the transmission modulator valve diaphragm, starting at this point, there is the only vacuum line that links the tranny and the engine. This is a common source of failure for the type of problem that you have. The only problem is that the catalytic converter is going to be in your way. Please let us know about your findings.

Thanks Art, your diagnosis was right on! I took the vehicle to the dealers and they found the modulator valve to be leaking. When I got home I started to poke around and found the vacuum line from the transmission. I looked at it closly and noticed what appeared to be condensation on it. A quick wipe of the finger revealed that the condensation was red. At this point I wasn't really surprised. the transmission fluid that had been ingested had deteriorated the hose and swelled it to almost twice its normal size. Now I know where the transmission fluid went and why I never saw a leak. However I am still puzzled as to how the engine oil level seemed to rise. The oil has been changed with no sign of anti freeze, guess I will keep my eye on it for a while. Thanks for your help.

jhayes:

I'm glad that my advice helped you, and don't
look further for any other source of contamitation of your engine oil, it was the
ATF being absorbed thru the mudulator vacum line up to the engine. For obvious reason, you should change your engine oil A.S.A.P.

Good Luck

Art,

Yes, the oil has been changed at the same time as the modulator valve was replaced.

I guess that post I made a little while ago was useless huh since the problem is fixed? :) hehheh oh well.. I found the easiest way (but still a pain) to change that valve is to drop the tranny crossmember out and put the tcase down to its skid plate then fiddle with a small socket and ratchet to get the heat shield off and the modulator.. that worked easiest for me anyway.. hope that helps out for anyone else that has to replace one..
