How was the sand?

We are planning a trip to the Michigan dunes in a few months. We've never been in all sand, how was the drivability?

Oh and....how about this one?

i don't have a pic, but after i tried to get out the first time, my running boards dug into the sand and those little buggers were pretty much making my explorer not roll over. the sand is pretty forgiving. if you don't have the clearance in your truck and have at least the 4.0 SOHC engine or the V8, you can truck on right through with the four wheel drive. just make sure to have plenty of tread in your tires, and you have the 4 wheel drive in low gear. the less tread you have, the more you have to air down your tires for better grip in the sand, because if you don't pay attention, you WILL get stuck. i usually air my tires down to 25-15 psi. if you have it above 30 without brand new tires, you're just asking to get stuck. just make sure to hose off the underside of your truck after you're through playing in sand. the sand will get in places you wouldn't think it would get into and then start causing some problems. all in all, i would say much more fun than rocks, cause you can't ding up the underside with sand :)
