iight so check it out

a couple days ago i got a 99 xls 4x4 with 180k on it

friday i decided to take it out to one of my friends houses to see how she does it was a blast didnt get stuck or anything

the x drives home like a champ

the next mornin dad was pissed because it was covered in mud and he had to get the plugs changed

i called him to see how it was and if he had gotten them changed yet and he preety much told me my life was over because the tranny had developed a slip coming out of 3rd gear

i told all my friends that i went with and they dont kno why it happened besides that it was bad timing Aand they all say that mudding had nothing to do with the slip it and that it would have started happening anyway

i dont wana say anything to my parents because it might just get me in more trouble but idk

what yall think

OH and my dad is on this forum lol i got it from him so idk if he goes in this section

heat kills auto transmission fluid
"mudding" generates excess heat because of the load you are placing on the drivetrain.

180K miles is about it for a stock automatic transmission anyways, so its likely a combo of both the milage and you taking it in the mud.

Bottom line when you buy a truck with 180K miles on it you can expect to be making repairs, one right after another.....

It sounds like its time for a manual tranny swap!!! :D I will never own another P.O.S. automatic again. I like the control of my manual trans. :p Later - Nate

it's also possible water got sucked into the tranny through the vent tube.
water is what killed mine last year... well, maybe not what killed it, but is what put it on it's last leg.

i think the lack of periods and sentence recognition in that entire post is what killed the tranny. ;) Seriously though, mud kills things...simple as that. It gets in places that rocks and road cannot. It will ruin things faster than you can blink. My suggestion would be to change the fluid (right now) and replace the filter. Make sure there is no mud packed into your tranny cooler. You might have just blown it up due to age and stress (like 410 said).

well mother works for a title agency and knos some ppl so its gona get looked at in the mean time im not driving it unfortunately so i dont #### it up even more
