Ok guys i have a '02 EB. I was looking for a HU that would make my upgraded stock system sound a little better. I have the indash 6 CD player. I also have the feature on the steering wheel where you can control the radio. My question to you guys is #1 is this a good HU, #2 will it make my stock systme sound $350 better, and #3 can i hook up the 7893 so I can still use the controls on the steering wheel?

thanks alot

The best thing to do, especially with an 02' is to go to a reputable retailer and see if the can do it. I have an 01' sport and it has the controls in back, but they told me that I can not buy an after market HU and still have the controls go to the back. I have also heard there is a way to do it, but they were not sure. I think that there is always a way to do it if your installer is experienced. Good Luck and let me know.

You can't retain usage of the factory stereo controls if you switch head units. It cannot be done.

No, it can be easily done, a friend did the same thing to his 01' Eddie Bauer, the stereo shop harnessed the wires from the steering wheel control buttons to the head unit on his new cd player. The back ones I'm not sure about and wouldn't care cause I hate it when people mess with my buttons:D The front ones though, with almost any shop, can easily be harnessed to work with the headunit. They just adapt the connections to the new HU.

They do this all the time on systems in Mercedes and Beemers which have a sh*tload of buttons controlling the stereo and everything else.

Just make sure the shop knows what it's doing b/c it would suck if they started screwing around with the wires not knowing anything.

rear controls are a useless PITA, get a shop thats been in business for awhile, and ask them if they can do it

Get one of these. It says it also works for Explorers. Basicly a learning remote.

I have that headunit in my explorer and it is awesome! Worth every penny. Get it on ebay, its a LOT cheaper! I got mine for 280 shipped and havent had a problem yet

Steering wheel controls are retained by using the PAC SWI-X unit (which captures the IR from the new remote and retains and translates it to the head unit via an IR eye directed at it) or by a Soundgate unit that does a similar manner. Peripheral units are idential to the PAC units (they licence them from PAC).

Sony decks are the only US decks that have hardwire remote input thus allowing a seamless install. The Soundgate unit should handle this well. Some people prefer a hardwire input to avoid and delay pressing the button to function and the IR eye doesn't have to be line of sight to the face of the deck.

Let me know if you need anything detailed about this.

I would like some more detail on this. Where can I find info on that unit you are refering too?
