Ok as most of you know im getting my stroker july 14. I still have the stock altenator which is so so weak right now i touch it after playing it for about 10-15 mins. with only my 100.2 amp hooked up and it feels like a damn fire burn. I'm planning on going to the spl outlaw in ft. smith, AR aug. 10 and want to compete, but with this weak of alt. (even though my battery is less than a month old and am going to supply the amp with a cap.) i dont think it will be enough to prevent total burn out of the alt. Ive never been to one of these events how do they do it? how long do you play your subs? I dont think i can get the 200 amp altenator in time to be safe. lmk what you guys know. thxs  Upon further investigation tonite i have noticed that when rolling down the windows while music is playing i notice a drop off in sound and alot of distortion. I thought it might be the wires but it isnt it happens to all the speakers on at the same time. When you let go of the button it returns to normal sound. I'm leaning more towards needing a alt. before i compete.

Get a altenator for a 93 or 94 limited they are 130 stock and you can get it at your local parts store, just use your old atenator as core:D

hey

hey man,
Are you saying that you cannot get the money in time to get it? Or that you cannot get it and installed in time?
Id say you have plenty of time to get one and put it in?

your battery is optima right?

if so with the addition of your lighting cap you might be able to go with the 130 amp alternator

you can get it at autozone for 175, but there is a 50 core charge, but when u take your old one back, don't say anything about it being smaller, just say here ya go....and 50 in you pocket and an 130amp alternator for 125.

Ya im saying both not sure if i can get money in time and installing it. Im going to get the 200amp altenator that everyone else has gotten from mraltenator for 225$ I have a stinger sp1000 battery and a rockford fosgate digital cap. I'm running about 2200 watts total. would a 130amp be enough? I would rather spend the extra money for the 200 amp if it is needed. thxs for the help.

there is an equation you use to find how much amps your amplifers pull from the battery

i think is add the fuse ratings of all the amplifers
if its less than 60% of the alternators output your ok

well i have 3 fuses for my amp 300, 40, 15.

300?

is that supposed to be 30 because i dunno if i've ever seen a 300 amp fuse

simply solution is a capaciter...like 100 bucks for good one...look for a 1 farad one. they are nice...cadence makes a nice one, shop around

I already have a cap. and that wont help out my altenator. Yes 300 amp fuse they make them mine is a stinger.

Well talked to some peeps this weekend and they told me to just put another battery in the back and have it be ran dedicate to the subs amp. I'm going to do this first and than get the Altenator later. Elite have you found out that eqaution for if i need the 130 amp or 200 amp altenator? thxs.

If you are running 2200 watts, you will be pulling about 160 amps at full load just for the audio system. You need more than a 200 amp alternator in order to keep up with the rest of the electrical loads in the vehicle. 200 amps doesn't allow for much margin of safety. Just my input. Use the formula P=IV with P = power in watts, I=current in amps and V= voltage.
The figures I used were assuming 13.8v and 100% efficiency (60% is probably more realistic and would raise the current levels even more)

does the limited alternator hook right up where the 92 xlt does? same connections and everything?

I am running close to 2400 watts, and with a 200 amp alternator, 3 farad capacitor, and 1/0 gauge wiring for the battery power, ground, and alternator connections, I have no problems with dimming or anything. The voltage gauge never even moves, except when idling it drops down a little, but it's only about .8 volts.

Yes, the limited alternator hooks right up where the 92 xlt does.

well im going with the 130 amp alt. and going to get another stinger sp1000 battery dedicated just for my strokers amp running off a 200 amp relay. That should be plenty of power.
