I will be spending more time in the US this year, in the NY metro area. 4 weeks in March to kick things off. Then few weeks every now and then evenly distributed over the year.
When I'm only traveling for one week I have no problem paying Hertz or Dollar for a nice and almost new ride. But for this longer period traditional rental would cost me too much.
Any of you guys know rentals in the area with properly used vehicles? I wouldn't mind driving an '02 explorer instead of an '07 one. Or any beater for that matter. As long as I'm saving money.
Dollar is charging $270 a week for the smallest ass car, without taxes and other "invisible" services. That's ridiculous. I want it way lower..
Another idea is to just buy an old car (anything still legal) for about $1k and get rid of it at the end of year. (yes, pay insurance, tax, etc, I know...but still)
Should I go this way I would need to park it somewhere safe while I'm not in the country. If anyone has some spare space in their backyard I could pay ~ $50-ish per month.
any input will be helpful
thanks
Greg
