So last thursday i replaced my alternator after it failed. Everything went fine. Charged the battery and it stared like a champ. Today, i got on the freeway to go home from work and i had to stomp on the gas to get out of a situation caused by a prius driving hippie, I live in california BTW, and the battery light bliped at me. So i decieded to "trouble shoot". I determined that this only happens when i get on the gas full throtel and the tranny downshifts nothing happens till i hit about 5k in the rpms. Then the battery light goes to town like there is no tomarrow. My question is what do you think it is? Did i get a bad alt or is the belt bad and or the belt tensioner shot.

Maybe a loose connection. :dunno: Stomping on it may exaggerate the condition.

I'm just spit-balling here. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will chime in.

Good luck with the fix.

Good guess, Ill see about wiggling some wire after the rain stops. Thanks BigRondo

It's worth a shot. Let us know how you make out.

I would also make sure the mounting points for the alternator are also tight, maybe give them a snug or two.. And like u said I would check the belt, maybe it is slipping just enough for the light to come on..

But why would it slip on the alt? there should be little no no resistance there for the belt. It just doesn't make sense to me. but ill check just for ***** and giggles.

Mine does the same thing only near redline.
By chance did you get a Bosch? Or reman?
I do have a newer belt, i always thought it was the belt tensioner getting old?
With over a 100k i just use it as a redline indicator lol. . i'll wait till it gets worse before i do anything.

although one guy said he replaced his alt and fixed it.

It sounds like the alternator is going bad. It gets to the higher RPMs and can no longer properly regulate the voltage.
