Alternator Re-wiring

You can try these guys for a HO alternator, their web page says they do Police Cars and the such.

I know our Police here have Explorers, and they put HO stuff on them to run their computers and lights and handle idling for extended periods. If I run into one of them at the beach, I will ask if I can look under the hood.

damn joe, you are a lucky *******.;)

since those amps are stable to 2 ohms mono, you're set. just wire the voice coils of each subwoofer in parallel and you've got 2 ohms mono. that setup is going to seriously shake the neighborhood.
especially if you put them in a large vented enclosure like this one:

enclosure

Hey,

The enclosure I got isn't vented, will that be ok? What difference will it make?

Here's the box I built tonight - I got it at speaker hole also.

In the Solo-Baric manual is says in large lettering, do not use in ported or vented enclosures. So why did you recommended a vented box?

what kind of amp alt. was he quoted 895 on. damn thats high.

i think there are two different versions of the L7. you probably got the one designed for use in small sealed enclosures. because on the regular L7 kicker recommend up to a 6 cuft vented enclosure. that should be fine. the bass will be a little tighter, but the output wont be as high.

I'm not sure...

what this idiot was quoting me on. I could barely understand his southern drawl. I'm emailing some places about the alternator. I really need to know if my stock can be rebuilt or not b/c that's cheaper. Also... anyone know if my closed box is ok? According to the solobaric manual you can't put them in vented boxes and each has to have a separate box section.

Thanks again for everyones help. I feel my project is moving along nicely.

Joe

your L7 is meant for the sealed enclosure. others can be used in large vented enclosures. it'll be fine.

check with a local shop to see if it can be rewired. i'm pretty sure that it can

Do I need an equalizer?

Hey guys. I told you my system specs. Do I need an equalizer like this one?

Will it fit?

hey jeen the website you gave for the alternator i went there and the guy emailed and told me 225$ for a 200 amp alt. my only question is the info. i gave him was just ford explorer 94 xlt and when i went to stingers website they make you fill out the type of alt you have in if its spool or v shape how many indentions your belt has more complex in other words. you said you bought this from him did all you have to do is drop it in and wire it up without any modification? im not going to install it of course get my trust electronic guy to do it. i emailed and asked him but i would like to see what you have to say about it since you have one already. lifetime warranty makes that even a better deal too! hey whoever posted you lose horsepower when adding a new alt. how is this?

hey look at this one i found on ebay is this a pretty good deal and will 165amp be enough?

i think the 220A for $225 with lifetime warranty might be a better deal.
that 165A alternator should be enough.

and the wiring is fine. it wont have to be upgraded unless it's in bad condition.

where?

where do you see a 220 amp alternator for that price?!

that sounds great. every place i contacted wants a minimum of 400 for a 200 amp max alternator. should i go for a high max or idle amperage?

also, i was told i have a 130 amp stock alt. is that max or idle?

I'm obsessed with this alternator thing. I want power!

Also, my friend is a mechanic and is installing the door speakers soon. Should I put in any sort of bass blockers or padding or anything? I really don't want to have to go in twice.

joe

Hey guys. I told you my system specs. Do I need an equalizer like this one?

That is the exact EQ that I have. I sometimes wish, I hadn't got it. My radio has enough control to manage my system by itself. I am constantly changing the radio and EQ settings trying to find the sound that I like.
It has awesome features, and the graphics are the best part.

link

link isn't working... I've decided on not getting the equalizer...

Thanks. I can't wait to start posting pics when I start installing this stuff in about a week!

Joe

yes the price was 225$ actually for a 200amp it was qouted from the website leenjeen gave early mraltenator.com it also comes with a fully lifetime warranty as far that is what he told me seems like a great deal

hey joe i would recommend putting in dynmat extreme on the outer and inner skin of doors it makes a huge difference. hell since your spending all this money do your whole car. i did my floor, all 4 doors, cargo area, and cargo door. it took me 3 boxes. i bought it off ebay you can get one box that has 9 sheets for about 125 including shipping. i think this was the best money i spent on anything in my system you will hear MAJOR differences! you can do roof too but i didnt see why i should of done mine. i did the floor with one box, another box i did all 4 doors, and last box did cargo area and cargo door.

dont get bassblockers. use the high pass crossovers on your amps.

hey jeen you own a shop or sumthin i swear every thread i read you always respone to it. i wish i had that much knowledge as you im still learning though

no i was talking about dynamat extreme, but the stinger stuff is just as good not sure on there prices. probably higher would be my guess. anyways to put on doors its very easy took me about 4hrs. to do all 4 doors. as far as doing the floor you will have to take seats out and carpet clean any grease, dirt, etc... on the metal. you need to do this for doors also this took me about 1/2 to full day to clean install and reinstall seats. if i would have had all the right tools with me it would of took 1/2 a day. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING THE ROLLER. this is an extremely great tool for this project. as far as what does it do. well lets just put it this way go listen to a friends car from the outside and inside than listen to the doors rattle like crazy. well when you put this in you wont get hardly any rattles, and if you put on the floor you wont hear any road noise whatso ever. i think it is worth it if you have the time. anyways it gives you more dbs and makes your amp more effiecent in the process. it would be easier to do now since you will have all your stuff being put in. on a one to ten i would rate the overall value of the product a 9. it also insulates your car too! cant go wrong
