Im planning on purchasing a 200w powermaster alt from truckperformance.com and it recommends that I upgrade my charge wire to a 4 gage wire. Now I looked under the hood this morning and I cant seem to trace where the wire goes after the alt. It goes under the front of the engine, then it dissapears. Im guessing the end is at the fuse box, but how do i upgrade that wire to a 4 gage from the 8 gage thats currently there. Dont want to cause no fires. Can i route an additional wire from the alt directly to the battery. Is that safe?
The wire goes I think under the intake manifold and snakes through the top of the engine... Just rip er out, it's attached with a couple of plastic clips and what not...
I ran a new wire from the alternator, along the rear firewall and back around to the battery. The factory cable was in a bad spot in mine, and melted through (my last explorer 4.0 ohv), I cant believe they routed it like they did...
It seems like you're needing some power, why not upgrade to 1/0 guage?
And upgrade your alt/engine ground as well... and your battery ground...
I think before I buy the alt, im gonna upgrade the wire and see if that helps. But if not, I will buy the alt. But thanks for the advice. Ill keep you posted.
